We moved into our new build home last October. And now i'm looking to get my boiler serviced.

Does anyone know how much it costs ?

And who should I use ?

I will use one of those coverplans that include an annual service in a few years time.

Mine is due for renewal, Viz....£50 for half an hours work.
Being a new build with presumably a new boiler, any work would be under guarantee.
Just go for a cheap annual service from a local heating engineer. Shop around. Cultivate the man, make him feel important, find out where he drinks, buy him a Christmas present. If he's Polish all the better. :=))

    Hi there,

We've been using the British Gas cover plan for the past two years and have had pretty good service (and peace of mind). Our boiler is about 5 to 6 years old and so far we've had to replace only the fan which was done free of charge as we have the cover plan - would have cost us approx. £15.00 + VAT + labour otherwise - yes I know not loads of money (yet!).

yep 50-60 quid is about right, remember most poles are not ticketed!

Have you looked if your home insurance provider offers any such options? I pay Halifax an extra £39.99 for home emergency cover including repairing your boiler if its breaks down. Damn good value as a few months after taking out the policy it packed up and the bloke that came out to fix it (on 2 occasions) said it would have cost over £300 for the new circuit board, valve plus all the labour off course...

Also, does anyone recommend getting your boiler serviced every year? What do they actually do for £50?

    definately.
Obviously I have some bias, but an annual check is recommended by CORGI, the government, health and safety execs etc.

All a service means is an engineer comes around, has a clean, checks all parts are in order and there is no defects with gas valve, pilot, flue etc.

Yes Ski., but £50 a visit. £4000 quid a week. No wonder my plumber specialises in boiler servicing. It's a racket, time the government stepped in.

The standard 'house visit' by almost any tradesman these days is £40+.

Yes, well, could be...I know the man wants paying and a bit extra for having the skills, and of course the van needs running. But hoovering the insides of a boiler aint rocket science.
Lets hope these Eastern European immigrants get ticketed soon and bring the prices down.
