Just saw a funny clip of Cleggover on Newsnight.
think the tunnel was ruled ut last time, but maybe it had been resurrected as an idea. It would make sence from a tourist payment POV at least.0 -

Yes, he's done a u-turn on everything he said he believed in. The script said his excuse was the worsening of the economy, except that the OBR has said that the economy is £30bn better off that we thought.
Oh dear oh dear, Clegg sold his soul for a shiny office.0 -
I find it difficult to believe the UK government has commitment to developing our nuclear manufacturing capability, when its a FRENCH company , EDF, paying 12.5bn for the future nuclear business in UK.
They obviously must see big profit in it. Set against this, 80m seems small change.0 -
The tunnel was mentioned on the Points West BBC regional news programme just before Newsnight started.
The news presenter says the tunnel will cost an additional 500 Million (not a typo - five hundred million).
And thats on top of the 27million for the cafe and gift shop.0 -

Tunnels I know nothing about so have no idea how much they cost....but 27 million?0 -
How can a cafe and a gift shop cost 27 million?

Sounds like a good candidate for a 'cut' to me!
It's ironic, but the govt is saying they want to concentrate on ensuring happier childhoods. The last one threw money at so many schemes yet we apparently still have some of the most depressed children on this earth.
I'm waiting with baited breath to see how the current govt proposes to address childhood deprivation and misery.0 -
gordon must have given the go ahead for all these even tho he knew he didn't have the funds to carry them out
All these "projects" were signed off less than 6 months before the election. Many were just outline ideas and hadn't even left the drawing board or even been fully costed.
The Labour Government were committing us to money we hadn't got, a mere £2 billion pounds.
I still waiting for the day that people actually comprehend the financial mess we are in. And that our childrens children will be paying for this legacy.0 -
these cuts are a reasonable start, but they need to be far more drastic and cutting.0

I just wish the government would just cut their own throats! :rotfl:0 -
Rochdale_Pioneers wrote: »The Forgemasters thing is hilarious when you think about it. The one thing we're going to be buying as a nation over then next few years is about 10 nuclear power stations. At the moment we have to buy them from abroad. Forgemasters want to invest to offer leading edge technology - enabling us to not only buy nuclear power from a British company but sell them to abroad.
As they need £80m, have a market capitalisation of £100m and the banks don't want to lend the money, the government stepped in. We loan them the money, they repay it with interest AND we get a world-leading manufacturing facility that gives us future exports.
You can imagine why the Tories would want to cancel it. Investment isn't really their thing is it - especially when they're desperate for the economy to flatline so they can blame the mess on Labour. So I get that. But considering that Ramsay MacClegg is a Sheffield MP his support for the ban is astonishing....
I'm not sure what is more idiotic. This comment or that 5 people thanked it. You really don't have a clue do you.0
