Cuts - And So It Begins

Sounds like a good candidate for a 'cut' to me!
It's ironic, but the govt is saying they want to concentrate on ensuring happier childhoods. The last one threw money at so many schemes yet we apparently still have some of the most depressed children on this earth.
I'm waiting with baited breath to see how the current govt proposes to address childhood deprivation and misery.
Cheaper house prices would be the best starting point.0 -

No one should be that surprised.
I do agree about destroying his party - how are Lib Dems going to be able to canvass come the next elections ?
Especially Cleggy around Sheffield 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Defence is very, very profitable.0 -
Nobody in Stockton or Hartlepool actually wanted a new hospital built miles from the actual towns, so that £450m saved is to be welcomed by those of us in the North East.0

I'm not sure what is more idiotic. This comment or that 5 people thanked it. You really don't have a clue do you.
Not half as idiotic as a failed British chancer/banker who thinks his degree in economics entitles him to correct and defend the Capitalist @ankers who precipitated this crisis.
Stick to Aussie matters cobber, you no longer have a say here.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

You have an interesting definition of failure. I'm earning a (very) decent salary doing a job I enjoy with a great team of people. I'm not seeking to defend anyone but if you think that the GFC was a crisis brought about by capitalist bankers alone then you really have little or no grasp of what is happening around you.Stick to Aussie matters cobber, you no longer have a say here.
Wrong again!

I'd give up and go to bed if I were you 'mate'.0 -
Well this one - Sheffield Forgemasters International Limited: £80m - was going to create 180 new jobs for a start
My job is insecure at the moment. Perhaps the government would like to stump up £80 million to my employers? Or maybe our local constituency isn't marginal enough.Been away for a while.0 -
Re the Sheffield Forgemasters, if there is such a shortage of productive capacity (for the press etc), and there are so many firms wanting the end-result, then someone, somewhere, will do it - i.e. potential customers who want the product will stump up the money to make it happen, or a more financially sound company will be able to raise funds through normal commerical channels. SF couldn't raise the money because the company itself is worth little more than the cost of the proposals which makes absolutely no sense to an investor. Governments should butt out of real commercial decisions - the vast majority of companies survive perfectly well without Govt handouts. What industry needs is an environment in which they can grow and prosper, i.e. low taxes, low bureacracy/red tape, etc. Firms that rely on artificial govt subsidies probably shouldn't be operating in the first place.0
