I wrote a letter to Barclaycard a few days ago to cancel my account with them.
I had my card for about 4 years, which I only used to pay a balance transfer off. Having made the final payment, i decided to cancel as I didnt want the temptation of the card sitting in the drawer, plus the APR for purchases was 19.9%.
Just off the phone from a lady in their Customer Loyalty dept who offered me an APR of 9.9% to keep the card open!
10% drop, not bad!0 -
Hello,
I emailed Barclaycard to ask for a reduction in rate from 19.9% due to being a long standing customer and un able to apply for flexi rate card.
They phoned this morning and said as I had been a customer for 10 years was entitled to rate reduction so now at 11.9% so it is worth asking!:T :T0 -

Lloyds TSB Advance card - 7.9% reduced to 5.9% for the life of the balance transfer and no fee either. An excellent result for a 5 minute phone call I thought!Don't blame me, it was like that when I got here!0

Halifax Gold Card - dropped from 13.5% to 9.95% for both cash and BT.
Egg Green - No joy (tried twice now over the past 18 months - mind you they are changing rates up/down for different people so it might be worth trying again next month...)Never attach your ego to your position....0 -
I rang alliance and leicester credit card (mbna) yesterday to cancel. I said I wasnt happy with the 16.9% rate and the £12 late charge (my first error).
They refunded the £12 and reduced my rate to 7.9%.
Im a 20 year old student. So this rate is great I think.0 -
Barclaycard reduced from 14.9% to 11.9% because I wanted to transfer to the Simply card. Once our remortgage has been sorted I'm going to be applying for a standard low rate card tho, Barclays can stick it if thats all the drop they're willing to offer a long term customer of whom they've made plenty of interest!0

I called HSBC to lower the APR, and they lowered it. I am with them for over a year now. They lowered the APR from 18.9% to 15.9%. Better than nothing.01. Marriott Rewards VISA (£2700 @ 17.9%)
02. HSBC MasterCard (£2250 @ 14.9%)
03. HALIFAX One MasterCard (£2200 @ 12.9%)
04. Monument VISA (£1000 @ 19.9%)
05. Aqua MasterCard (£500 @ 29.9%)0
