  • Why is everybody so pre-occupied by accidents caused by drink drivers. Most accidents are caused by stone cold sober drivers. Surely this is where we should be consentrating our efforts.

As usual, those who already DD will continue to do so regardless of any lowering of limits and anyone who thinks it'll stop even one accident is a deluded fool. It will though provide another revenue stream for the Govt. Like the last thing the Conservatives brought in, GATSOs, it'll eventually be proven to have very little benefit to safety and a massive benefit to HM treasury.

I think they should just leave it as it is.
The problem drivers are already over the existing limit. This will just trap a few people in the boundary area, with no decent evidence that they are a menace on the roads.

The claims that this would "save 65 lives a year" were apparently nothing to do with people in the boundary, but based on the assumption that a lower limit would cause less people to drink and drive.

I've not read any of the other replies yet, but I predict the usual "zero tolerance" demands.

this was my line of thinking aswell. folk who already flout the law will continue to do so.
i just see it as moving the goalposts. one day you could be perfectly legal next day you could have lost your living just because the goalposts have been moved.

I am a bit more 'black and white' about this. Drink, dont drive. Think you'll drink enough to be over the limit the next day (allowing 2hrs per unit I believe?) then dont drive. Quite simply, if you are in charge of a 1tonne hunk of steel and aluminium, take responsibility for the life of your passengers and passers by by not drinking any time in the previous 24hours.

It's not worth the risk. Like he said ^ lol!

Um....... I think it's more likely to involve alcohol than goalposts.

Why not? If being below the legal limit provides no greater risk that several other factors that are tolerated every day then what's the problem?

Statistically, you're more likely to be bitten by a New Yorker than a shark. Is that because sharks carry less risk? Or because people avoid swimming in shark infested water?
