When free postage isn't free postage!

Hope someone can help. I am mightily confused!
I purchased an item on EBay.co.uk for £12.00 from a UK seller and I am also in the UK.
In the auction particulars at the top it clearly says:
Postage:FREE P&P Royal Mail 1st Class Standard
HOWEVER
When I go to pay for the item it says:
Item name
Item ID: xxxxxxxxx - Price: £12.00
Royal Mail 1st Class Standard: £0.60Estimated delivery: 4-5 business days*
1
£12.00
Subtotal:£12.00
Postage & packaging:£0.60
Total:£12.60
Whats going on? Do I have to pay the 60p? I know its not much but I bid to the price I paid because it said it was free postage.

Surely this should have been stated up front?
There is NO mention of a 60p charge for anything anywhere on the original auction page

Hiya sorry postage was a little more than expected so I have included that in the invoice Many thanks and I hope you enjoy your item!
I actually think thats really cheeky!0 -
Yes it's cheeky and a seller cannot add more post or packing to the invoice. Just pay the original £12 to avoid any silliness over NPBs and let the seller do the right thing. If he refunds you and holds out for more he will end up losing as he'll have his £1.20 FVFs to pay and still have the item.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. How do I do this? Whenever I go to pay it says £12.60 under order details and I can't see any way to edit this? (Thanks in anticipation)0 -

You cna try logging into paypal direct, and seeing if you have the option to pay for goods and whether it lets you add the item number. Some accounts seem capable of this but others don't. Alternatively see if it is possible to change the invoice, again some sellers leave it open and some don't.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I suppose i was thinking of the seller a bit here, if i had to pay extra for postage I would consider a neg and poor stars, but i wondered if there was a way of giving the seller another chance before it got to that.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I would except that I a) bought the item on the understanding that it was £12, and b) could have bought the item elsewhere on the net for £12 including p&p, but as I was on EBay already buying some other things I just had a 'oh well I'll get this here at the same time'.
I've sold items on EBay before and then realised it would cost me more to post them than I thought, I absorbed this cost because it was entirely my fault for not checking properly.
If she'd emailed me and said look I'm really sorry this is going to cost me more than I thought, would you consider putting something towards the postage, I probably would have been quite happy to for the sake of an easy life, but I really don't like the fact I've just been sent this invoice and expected to pay the extra!
I hasten to add this is a very small item - jewellery findings (non precious metal so its not a value issue)! So its not like I'm asking her to ship an elephant for free!

I would be really peeved if it stated free p&p & then I was invoiced for it, even if it is only 60p. At what point does it stop being ok? I would email & say that you are happy to pay the original amount inc of p&p. Can you get the same from another seller for the original cost?
It's a bit sneaky & others sellers are going to look more expensive, if I've just done my sums correct she's trying to charge you an extra 5%.0
