Primarily because RFL isn't a hypothecated tax and the cost of maintaining our roads (in so far as anyone bothers) is vastly more than covered by the money filched from the motoring public.

    Oh thats ok then.

You drive a car and you consdier yourself overtaxed. That makes claiming for every little thing you are entitled to Ok.

Of course, if you consider the road tax unreasonable, you could always sell the car and use public transport. Or what is left of it after the middle classes have scammed their tax money back

Are you dense or just obtuse?

The point is that road taxes vastly exceed the cost of road provision.

It's money used to, oh, I don't know, maybe pay whatever 'benefits' you think you're entitled to.

Still, as you say, you are 'woefully ignorant about stuff'.

    It's hard to disagree.

    Unions in La La Land?

They may well be BUT the bankers who caused all this mess, encouraged by Brown, who didn`t regulate them enough, were and still are living in La La Land and completely unaffected by it all and getting away with it scot-free while the rest of the country suffers.

All the nonsense talked about "if we don`t pay these talented people massive bonuses they will leave and go abroad", then let them!

Just proves you don`t have to be a genius to bankrupt the country, just a greedy bas*ard.

What an absolutely classic MSE right wing love in.

I think, apart from reminding these cuties about how the current governing class actually laugh at them behind their backs as they chauffeur their kiddies to toffschool

Is that the same school Diane Abbott sent her kids to ?

I would claim whatever was available, I just don't agree that it should be available if there is no need, e.g. pensioners living on the Costa-Del-Sol entitled to winter fuel allowance icon7.gif

Who exactly are you, I, or indeed anyone to determine need ? We go down the route of need, or perceived need, and it becomes murky.

The pensioners who have paid into the system all their lives should be entitled to take benefit from it. The moment you means test it then it becomes a poverty trap. Means testing may seem nice on the surface but underneath it is a problem.

It would be far better to scrap or reduce benefits.

You pay for road fund licence, I take it you mean road tax.

I think he knew what he meant. When he referred to it as the road fund license he did so with good reason.

    Hey you have a car.

You're the sharpest knife in the drawer.

You drive on the roads in your car and you pay towards the upkeep of those same roads. You use a service and you pay for it.

You deserve a round of applause because?

Do you seriously believe he was asking for one ? He was making a very reasonable point.

By ISA I take it you mean what you can earn before you pay tax. I am woefully ignorant about stuff.

Which is the one thing you ably demonstrate.

    What else do you claim?

Just as a matter of interest...........

I remember when we had british rail reasonable fares
    british gas
    bt
    electricity
    water
    transport
    coal mines
    all were reasonably cheap.
all sold off by what party.all dividends from us brits are going abroad

I do remember them, generally they were awful and expensive.
eg if you wanted a phone line installed it took 6 weeks and cost hundreds of pounds.
I think a touch of rose tinted specs here.
And dont even mention our wonderful nationalised British Leyland.

If we all claim no more than the state say we are entitled to and pay the taxes that the state is entitled to receive I think the finances of the country would be in a much better condition.
