Any news on 'essential travel only' ban being lifted?
Will any policy bought now, immediately become valid for health claims if i travel after the ban is lifted?
If i buy today, the ban is lifted 1st July, i travel 2nd July, get ill 3rd covid, am i covered?
I am not taking that risk. I am watching out for any amendment but haven't heard anything different yet. Even if this ban were lifted, I still think that most insurers are going to continue with the exclusion of Covid cover from their policies. Have you already booked a trip in July or later?
Yes, got an EU flight in July. Just be nice to know...

Anyone know where MSE got this info from? (23rd June).
Nationwide telling me nothing is covered now (cancellations, or medical).

Hi forum admins. There is a factual error on this page which would benefit from a correction:
Specifically with the Nationwide FlexPlus account packaged travel insurance.
Nationwide do NOT provide Coronavirus Medical cover or cancellation if the holiday was booked after 18th March. or to new account holders after 18th March 2020.
Or indeed any Coronavirus related claim (which they don't publish what they consider as coronavirus related claim)
    See Nationwide webapage:

If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Thank you for getting in touch.

Since the initial panic by travel insurers, they are slowly adjusting the cover/conditions, but may not have been as quick communicating this.

Just to give some reassurance – and this is just a general summary, and subject to the T&Cs of the policy - the Nationwide travel insurer underwriter confirmed:

    You would be covered if:

    - You need to cancel the holiday because the traveller contracted Covid-19, and can’t go on the holiday (as long as this wasn’t contracted at the time cover started or trip booked)

    - You need medical assistance (because of coronavirus) when abroad

    - Repatriation if necessary

The following exclusions will be standard on all travel insurance policies.

    You won’t be covered if:

    - You travel to a country against the advice of the FCO
    - If the holiday gets cancelled/you need to cancel because of coronavirus disruption

    Hope this helps.

    Hello MSE team,
not sure whom to tell this, but: The article https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance/ says Staysure does not cover cancellation for coronavirus, but the current policy document at https://www.staysure.co.uk/policy-documents/travel-insurance/ says it kinda does? Or am I misunderstanding something? Their IPID says no Covid-19 or pandemic joy is covered, so I'm confused.

Also, do you have some ball-park numbers on how much "legal costs and expenses" should be covered? I'm new to travel insurance and quite a few "specs" of these contracts don't ring a bell with me.

Huh. I just got a sales mail from them saying I could get 15% off the base price if I buy now, and the following:

If you didn’t already know, your quote includes extensive cover for coronavirus (COVID-19) both at home and abroad. So you'll be covered for trip cancellation if you catch it before you travel, plus emergency medical treatment and repatriation back to the UK if you are affected when abroad.  See our handy checklist below for more information.

Please note that this cover only applies to trips undertaken if the FCO have not advised against all or all but essential travel to your destination before you depart.

So I guess the information in the article is indeed outdated and you get cancellation cover?

i read it as you get cover if you cancel because you contract the virus and cover if you contract it when abroad, but you are not covered for cancellation due to FCO  advice not to travel.

I agree with you ,i would imagine a policy that literally covers every scenario would cost a small fortune
