Has anyone got a water fountain for their cat/dog?

Being a true MSEer I'm thinking of the filter cost. You see I have a fridge that filters water & if its good enough for me it's good enough for them. So I don't need a fountain with the filter.

BUT all except one brand has them. The one I would like to get has a filter. AFAIK only one brand doesn't have them & its "LUCKY KITTY", its quite expensive & large, I want a small one.

So can you run a water fountain without the filter in?
I'm wondering does the water come out too fast or anything without a filter to slow it down.

Is there a particular reason why you want a cat fountain?
I have successfully encouraged my three cats to drink extra water by leaving water bowls in various corners around the house. I can hear them having a little lap at various times of the day and night - it's a bit like they see it therefore they want it.
Just trying to save you a few pounds - I'm not telling you not to get a water fountain or implying that they aren't as good as they seem.

I'm looking for a fountain too but as I live in a soft water area didn't think I'd need a filter either. If you read some of the reviews though the filter also removes anything that ends up in the water after it's in the fountain - fur, food etc so I think you'd still need it.

Charlie LOVES running water. If a tap is running he wants to drink it:D

I asked in the Pet Shop & was told they vary between 3 & 4 weeks NOT months.

I don't want to put a filter in which will harbour bacteria if its not changed often enough. I would be more than happy to use one without a filter & use filtered water, but I don't wish to have something which could cause harmful bacteria because its past its best date.

Ive got one for the dogs and to be honest its a bit of a waste of money. The water gets dirty quickly, the smell when you clean the thing is awful, it feels to me that its really quite unhygenic - have stopped using it for them.

I have the Catit and it is ace!

I don't change the filters every month just take it out and give it a clean.

I have 3 cats and they all use it!
