Has anyone got a water fountain for their cat/dog?

So for anyone that has a filter if you run it without it, will it run normally?
I'm wondering will it gush to fast or not get dispersed in the right way without the filter in place.
IE does it do more than clean the water, but direct it somewhat as well.0 -
So has no one who has a water fountain ever run it without a filter then?0

I have the Catit fountain, and have to admit, haven't changed the filter since I bought it (several months ago now ...
). I give it a thorough rinse every few days or so though when I wash the fountain out, but it's starting to get a bit ... floppy?
I also posted on your previous thread about water fountains, but before I bought the Catit. My cat loves it and has definitely drunk far more water since having it around. The only drawback really is the cost of buying replacement filters (which I obviously haven't got around to yet). For that reason I'm considering forking out for the Lucky Kitty (down to £42.90 on ZooPlus, + cashback available from Quidco). Also, Lucky Kitty looks a little easier to clean, and just, well, looks better!
Sorry MrsE, not really answered your question. I might remove the filter tonight and run it without to see what happens. As far as I can tell, it won't interfere with the operation of the fountain, but all the hair, fluff, general airbourne detritus will remain floating around the fountain.0 -

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. Its not an issue with a little bowl, but you don't want to be changing the fountain twice a day.
I know the little catit doesn't work in a power cut, I wonder if Lucky Kitty still has a well of water in the bottom (we get the odd power cut).
I'm trying to work out how the lucky kitty works without a filter & with hair & fluff & stuff?
Maybe it has a tiny mesh grate?????
I think the lucky kitty is dishwasher proof too.0 -
Found a pdf manual for the Lucky Kitty here. It seems there is no filtration system whatsoever, but it does look much easier to clean than the Catit so changing the water every other day wouldn't be a problem. No mention of what to do in a powercut, but I assume, from examining the design of the Lucky Kitty, that if it were kept topped up, there would be a small pool of water exposed in the lower end of the sloping bowl.0

Cat fountains are a great if your cat won't drink from a bowl, like mine and filters help to keep the hairs out of the water. Unfortunately I tried to order 1 the other day from Zooplus --great price and no postage costs for mainland uk--- buy when I got to the checkout stage postage costs came up as £4.90! I e-mailed them to ask why and they came back to say Highlands and Islands incur charges. I told them I don't live in H or I but they said my postcode incurred charges. I live 4 miles from Glasgow!!! I told them their postcode system must be wrong but they have stopped replying. Needless to say I won't be doing business with them.0

I have one for the ferrets as they love running water. I just clean the filter when I change the water, and it seems fine. Haven't tried using it without it, may just do that and see what happens!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

Went for this one.
Its cheap, plain & simple. Not as small as the catit but they always have water (even in a power cut) & it has three drinking options (levels) so one option or level is likely to appeal.0 -
Oh that looks good MrsE, I might get one for my cats. One of mine only wants to eat wet food so hardly drinks water, once in a blue moon I see her, she hates it! The other one exists of biscuits, and he drinks heaps of water (thankfully) but has to whack the water bowl to get it moving before he will drink it, or will sit in the bath and howl until you go in and turn the tap on for him! :rotfl:0

One of mine adores running water too, thats why I got a fountain. Plus I feed them dried food so they need to drink lots of water.0
