  • ironman, glad to have been of service!

Personally, I would not write to the bank. I would write to MH the standard letter denying any acknowledgement of the debt and asking them to prove it. Chances are (I reckon 98%) they will not be able to prove anything and you won't hear anymore.

    Good luck!

  • Hello

I have been getting letters from MH for about 6 months now re a credit card debt of £500+ The name they are sending to has to my knowledge never lived at my address. I have been here 8 years and the previous person fo 6 years prior to that (and that wasnt him either).

The last letter sent states that if no response is received in 7 days they will send round a 'Field Collector'.

I have returned all previous letter to them explaining that the person does NOT live here.

Since I am out, at work, all day then I dont want one of their 'Collectors' snooping around.

I dont wish to call them...it would cost ME money to ring them and I havent done anything.

    Any advise, please

Hi Steve - Quite honestly, the BEST advice is just to IGNORE them.

Since these 'low-life' crims have decided to 'ignore' your letters - they firmly believe that everyone of their intended victims is a liar and a cheat - then let them carry on with their empty threats. After all it will cost them money to send a 'field agent' - not you.
In all fairness, they are unlikely to call, but even if they do, then their 'doorstep thugs' would have absolutely no powers whatsoever, other than to ask if you are the person that they are looking for.
You have done more than you are legally obliged to, by telling MH that the person they are looking for no longer lives at your address, and any attempt, by MH, to pursue you as the 'assumed debtor' will constitute harrassment, which is a criminal offence - so, if these threatened 'field agents' do call, or are seen 'snooping' around your house, inform the Police.

Who the hell are MH to say that 'they don't give you permission to record their calls'?

On a point of interest - if MH record any call that you make, to them, without informing you that the call is being recorded, then that recording is inadmissable as evidence in a court of law.

That`s why I always tell callers that there calls are recorded (which they are ), simply to protect myself.

I have in the past received call from some unscrupliouse people ,so I record all calls now.
  • Just wanted to share my Mackenzie Hall story.
They did the usual, a phone call to my parents adress, followed by a letter. They said I owed money on a student loan account, which was originally 16 pounds but with interest went up to 86 (!). However, I had filed a letter from the SLC, telling me that my debt had been paid off in full. I ran them and they stated that Mackenzie Hall had, as others have pointed out, ´acquired´ old, often paid-up debts and had added their own interest. She said ignore them.
I was OK. I knew that I had a letter confirming payment of the debt. I´d also googled Mackenzie Hall and found out about that nasty little business. But how in the hell is what they´re doing legal?
As others have said, don´t ring them if they contact you. Google them...there is some great advice on how to deal wtih them in cyberspace.
    They really are scum.
  • Hi all

    Lets keep the pressure up!

My family home has also just recieved a letter from MH requesting payment in full, and threatening action.

The letter is addressed to a person who is not known at our address (we have been residents for 6 years).

I browsed the web on Saturday and read all these posts, so thought it only correct in notifying others, to hopefully help.

I have sent a complaint to BBC Watchdog, and as it was a Monday (and a good day for a rant) have 141'd and called them twice this morning already (without giving the reference code, named person, or address) asking what they are up too. Is it a scam, why is the paper of poor quality, who is - Phil Robertson and why does he not have a signature.....they even put the phone down on me, so i'll have to call again later...hehehe (I have found a cheaper alternative than anger management).

On a serious note, the staff are very un-professional and please, all who get a letter - browse the web and read the forums.

    Regards,

    JS

  • Please don't worry or panic.

Do a search for statute barred debts either on here or the national debt line web site. Send MH the letter informing them that the debt is now statute barred and you are not going to pay it.

In a nut shell as the debt is older than 6 years and presumably you haven't paid or acknowleged the debt in that time they can't pursue you for it once you send them the letter.

    Good luck.

Sorry but are you the same T Roll as on the debt free board? I'm not trying to be horrible but from the posts I have read you usually tell them to pay up regardless
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
