Use Ebay! Try" Jacques Vert" "Frank Usher" "Condici" "Gina Baconi" and "Mother of the bride". I've just bought a gorgeous Condici suit, with the most fantastic embroidery for £35 including postage! This was for a suit that retails at £400!! I use Ebay all the time for designer gear, and some of it is so cheap I wear it to work, don't tell em it cost me 99p tho!!!!!

Thanks guys! I think its just a case of trawling the shops, something I reeeeaaaaalllly hate. In most stores if you're a size 18 the clothes appear to be made for at least 5' 10" - sleeves all wrong, everything out of proportion, nothing sitting right. Wish me luck!

Try a Debenhams Personal Shopper. You won't have to buy anything if you don't like it (or can't afford it!), but your shopper will do the running around for you, they have petite ranges, and you might get some ideas for what suits you that you'd ruled out yourself.

I agree with the comments about Bon Marche. Some of their stuff is truly awful, wouldn't-be-seen-dead-in-it-if-I-was-90! But other things are great, not polyester, and their idea of Large is actually Large! :rotfl:

Also, charity shops! I was at a wedding a few weeks ago, me in my Jaques Vert jacket over a sleeveless dress, friend 1 in a stunning matching shift dress and jacket with handbag and shoes that she'd died to match her outfit, friend 2 also in charity shop finery! In fairness none of us are quite the same shape as you, but it's still worth a browse!

  • I completely agree with the personal shopper, I did the same in Debenhams for my son's Christening and it was fantastic. Takes the stress out of choosing from racks. You just have to try on and disgard and they do the rest for you.

But before you go all out to get your 'outfit for a wedding' think about what it is you are after. Unless you are bride or mother, i.e. a member of the congregation/guest list, then I would go with something you are comfortable with and just add a pretty scarf or broach to go with the outfit and hire a nice hat to finish it off.

I have had so many nightmare outfits where I have turned up in a dress suit and not felt comfortable, or another time when I got some discount outlet suit which was dreadful. If you have a nice suit in your wardrobe bring it out, mix it with a nice bright top, maybe a bold red or whatever your colour is and jazz it up a bit.

The important thing is to take the stress out of the 'wedding' word and just look for something you would be happy to wear again to the church on sunday or a nice meal out in a restaurant.
    Good luck
