Help - Need a wedding outfit!

Options
I desperately need some ideas for a wedding outfit. Problem is I'm 5' 1" and a size 18. Evans is out cos all their clothes seem to be for 5' 10" and over!! Also, I always either wear flat sandals or flat boots - I don't have a pair of shoes. I also hate flowery stuff cos I'm not very girly, only have big bags not handbags and I'm middle aged. All Help gratefully received. Any ideas ladies??

  • Do you have a Mackays near where you live? Worth a look if you do.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

I don't know if you are near, but there is a M&S outlet in Gunwharf in Portsmouth. I am similar size when not pregnant and have found a few few bits in there.
Oh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY

Do you have a retail park nearby with an 'Outfit' shop on - this contains several different shops including, Evans, Dorothy Perkins, Principles, Topman, Top Shop etc. https://www.outfitfashion.co.uk or even if there is a retail park or big out of town shopping centre there am sure you would be able to find something there

Evans have a petite section usually tucked away at the back. You could check them out online too if your local one is small.

Thanks for your ideas so far.

When I say 'middle aged' what I mean is I'm 44 but not yet ready for bon marche or florals or anything polyester!

I have no idea what to get cos I think I look ridiculous in skirt suits, my booty is round so not sure about trousers. I was thinking about maybe wide trousers with a tunic top - but no way am I wearing heels. I hate formal occassions or do's of any sort. I'm pretty casual being a student but don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb!

Crumbs, try Bon Marche again - loads of non-expensive stuff for all ages except perhaps teens, although my sister bought my 17-year-old niece a red zipper cardigan from there and she loved it.

Is the wedding an "important" one? I mean if you are "just" a guest, then surely you can make an outfit up from what you already own. What would you wear to a smart, (semi)-formal occasion?

Also, depending on the time of year of the nuptials, your boots and a decent coat would be fine for the church/register office. Once everyone gets to the reception, no-one is really looking at what everyone is wearing, so long as it's clean, tidy and fits.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Bon marche is actually quite good for clothes - I have just bought 2 tops there today - 2 for £15. I actually find they are dead comfy and last quite a while. Have you tried Asdas george section?

TK Maxx and Matalan can be very good for dressy stuff, and with TK Maxx importing from the US, they often have bigger sizes.
