So does this definitely mean that people who did it yesterday before the T&C change will not be able to withdraw the losing money?

martin says they're trying to find out http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/free-world-cup-bet

Well I've made £10 profit for nothing (£20 for Argentina to win at 1/2) and withdrawn it straight away.

What a load of rubbish. By taking part in the previous promotion with the intention of withdrawing the refund is in no way abusing the offer.

    You are doing it again.

888 are not stupid, they know most people won't carry on betting, BUT they also know that a percentage of sign ups will either bet their winnings or refund, or carry on betting anyway. People that do that are paying for the rest of our freebets. Plus 888 will have had a large injection of contacts into their marketing campaign which is reasonably valuable.

and that's EXACTLY why this shouldn't be promoted on MSE!!!

It is sneaky to do what they have done which is to attract huge attention with a great offer, then completely change the offer by only amending the T&C's and keeping the offer name the same 'no lose bet'. This is very misleading because it is absolutely possible to lose now, unlike before.

Nonsense. They advertising campaign was directed through affiliate links - more likely on betting related web sites (I have a betting site and an 888Sport affiliate link). MSE have promoted this as a "go and screw 888Sport" offer and this is has forced the change in T&Cs...NOT 888Sport trying to create huge attention and then be sneaky!

We're all adults here, no one is being forced to take part of any deal found on MSE. I don't agree that Martin Lewis is being irresponsible by allowing this thread to remain. You obviously have not seen the GIOL board which has been running for years.

Hilarious! My first post in GIOL and matched bet (Spain v Iceland) was in March 2007. Coral £50 using the Sun code. Remember that one? No, didn't think so. DO you remember the BlueSQ fiasco? What about Tipico?

who said anything about being forced? It's an offer that has been promoted as risk free that subsequently turned out to not to be risk free because of the changes in T&Cs.

Having been through at least 50 bookies I never thought I'd support the actions of one of them...but I have to on this occasion.

So you're a matched bettor but you think bookmaker no lose promotions should not appear on MSE?

Come again? It doesn't matter where the advert was found, be it online, TV, radio. Nothing changes that fact that 888 will have thousands of additional contacts for eshots and other marketing such as text messaging (which I have already received a string of).

Let me respond to that with a quote from Mr Lewis himself.

It is hilarious... you're a matched bettor (as I am), yet you don't think a no lose offer should appear on MSE. The previous no lose offer involves less risk that matched betting does, so what makes you think Martin will remove this offer (if still existed which it doesn't), given that the GIOL board has been here for years and is higher risk than this.

As someone who does matched betting, you are frequently abusing bookmakers by taking out of line odds, so you're happy to do that, but you didn't take part in this because... it's abusive to 888 ?? This must be a wind up.

I think you're in the minority here mate. Unless anyone else feels they have abused 888? I don't.
  • I put my bet on yesterday whilst the original offer was still open, I have an email saying "deposit and bet and you are guarunteed up to £20 back if you lose"... hopefully that will be enough for me to get my money back.. as i did lose boooo!

I havent read all the thread but most of it and posted about the digital odds.

I have come to the conclusion that there are many people signing up to this who dont understand the first thing about gambling and odds and t and c etc

This isnt a free bet as some have said it is a no lose bet where you have to make a deposit, you dont have to bet it through again.

Those people that dont understand gambling are prob best to avoid gambling in the first place as pointed out in Martins original email alert

    Edit

just read on here that they have changed t and c so that you do have to wager losing bet through again.

That def wasnt on there yesterday when I placed my bet

nope wasn't there when I did either. I believe the peopl early yday and the day before got the t &c where anyone could bet anything, on anything.

I got the t & cs where it was only open to the first 1000 new members that day

and then they changed it again after that to whatever it says now, jeez! way to confuse everyone haha!.... so as far as I'm concerned I am owed £20 as those are the t & c's i signed up for..

    Did I say that? No..GIOL Yes..newsletter read by millions..No.

Yes it does. A newsletter to millions of people explaining how to take advantage of a bookmakers offer is going to have a serious impact on the numbers taking up the offer and the strong possibility of it being pulled.

And how exactly have 888Sport 'screwed' MSE'ers??? They're a legit company providing a recreational activity to those that want to play. 888Sport aren't forcing anyone to gamble! Why should they be screwed??? They're not a bank who have charged unfair amounts for going overdrawn. They're not a train company who increase fares well above inflation year after year.

You are completely missing the point. Advertising an offer on this scale is always going to end up with the offer being pulled leaving people unsure as their situation on the refund...Hey, look what happened!

Oh yeah, and once again, I didn't say that it shouldn't appear on MSE..

You are still not getting this are you....

btw, I didn't state that I didn't do the promotion...and I'm not stating that I did either.....However, I didn't do it because I've already got an 888Sport account. But, once again, you're jumping to conclusions...

maybe, but let me quote now:
This morning 888 changed its terms to say once the £20 is refunded, you must bet it again (at minimum odds of 1/5) before you can withdraw, meaning you could lose your original stake and this is not a good deal. We are confirming with the press office that people who signed up before the change will still get the original offer. Everyone else, steer well clear
    Irresponsible.
  • I put my bet in yesterday morning and lost. I sent an email last night enquiring about the refund, I don't have a reply yet but I just checked in my account and the £20 has been added. I just withdrew it and am now waiting for it to reach my account. There were no problems withdrawing it once it had been credited.
