If you want:- (this relates to a brand new house - no chain - mortage approved - funds in place? 30 days to complete CWPL we envisage no problems) thereafter
* No regular contact from anyone including your supposed alocated lawyer - only get any information if you phone them. e.g took them ten days to find draft contract from other side - only told me when I called. It was sent out and got lost in their post room ermm sorry.
* Even then the information they give will be out of date and completely innacurate, especially the Customer Website . It said "searches applied for" erm no they where not, so the sellers solicitors supplied FOC (is that ethical or risk free?) you still have to pay for them?
* Never speak to the same person twice - even when you request your solicitor calls you he/she simply wont.
* Have documents go missing or never get posted out or NOT recieved back - erm I hand delivered them into your offices on Saturday.
* The people on the Customer Help desk not to be trained Example CWPL person "erm never heard of a snag list what is it? e.g. read page two of the draft contract CWPL sent me. A real confidence builder?
* Ask the Sellers lawyers questions have an answer in writing - then ask it again and again.
* INstruction s like - can you please query point ##$$ and then never follow it up or come back to you.
* Coming up to completion date - we sent the mortage lenders funds back - erm no we didnt, erm yes we did erm not sure and it may take seven days to get them back.
* Erm you are liable for the interest on the above funds.
I could go on and on and on - what should or could have been straight forward process and a pleasure was a farce, useless and unfair then they bill for 1,860 pounds.
RUN FOR THE HILLS get a local solicitor pay less - get a proper efficent job done.0 -
Hi all,
Another CWPL victim here. Currently involved in a sale and purchase with them, which should be extremely simple given that there is no chain either side (transaction is a part exchange).
Without going into the details here, we've endured several weeks of absolutely appalling organisation and incompetence from them - completely unacceptable for any lawyer, but particularly so when you consider that we're paying them so much more than we could have arranged with a local firm. Kicking ourselves now, obviously.
Anyway, clearly this firm is upsetting a lot of people and I want to start looking at taking it to BBC Watchdog because basically I don't want anyone else to go through what we have had to with this company.
I will be making them aware of these ongoing threads anyway, but if you are interested in putting your name forward, please post below or drop me a PM.
thanks0 -
Sorry but I'm going to add another horror story. No details, seems pointless as everyone is saying the same thing, they cost memoney, time stress etc very very slow, utterly useless and just say nothing when you speak to them on the phone and prove they have fouled up. Run away
sorry

We put our house up for sale with Bridgfords Estate Agents after our last house was sold very quickly by them. They tried to get us to sign up with Countrywide but on comparing prices they were considerably higher then I was able to find elsewhere.
Our house is now sold subject to contract but there are 3 other houses in the chain - all sold by Bridgfords and all using Countrywide. The sale was agreed at the beginning of August and our solicitors have done everything that they could do in a timely manner. You would have thought that Bridgfords & Countrywide, being part of the same "organisation" (I use that word in it's loosest form!), would have got their act together as they have 3 lots of solicitors fees and 4 commissions to gain from this - sadly this is not the case.
As of today we are supposed to be moving on Monday (1 November) but we have not been able to exchange contracts because Countrywide are still waiting for our buyer's mortgage offer!!! 3 Months Later!!! Adding further stress to an already stressful situation.
I would not ever use Countrywide even if they did make their prices competitive as they have demonstrated incompetence throughout the whole process.0 -

I am no fan of CPL, but it' s not their fault that the buyer's mortgage offer has not come through - more down to the buyer or his mortgage broker and the lender.RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Just some praise for CPL as a change. We sold our house earlier this year with them and the only trouble we had was with our buyers. It took them 4 months to get a mortgage! Also their solicitors took ages to reply to our queries. We were very satisfied with CPL,and now we are buying with them.We find the people on the phone are very helpful and more often than not we speak to the same person. There are conveyancers and a designated solicitor who calls to update and has always been extremely helpful. All in all they have been more efficient than a lot of local firms that our friends have used.0

oh my days do NOT use countrywide property lawyers!!!! they are an absolute joke!!!!
we were first time buyers and used CPL to buy our house. We made it clear that we needed a fixed date as our rental property was being sold. They fixed a date 3 TIMES and then failed to meet it. We ended up moving in with relatives 60 miles away for 6 weeks until they sorted it out. All their fault - they made mistakes on their searches.
Get out get out get out!!! CPL suck!0
