Yes DF, I looked into it but South West Water have made it so difficult to apply for even the specialist at the CAB couldn't get into it. In the end I gave up. I am feeling thoroughly disheartened now because I wrote a really good "stuff ya" letter to SWW but then realised I had made a huge error, so I have just deleted the post it was in (I had it up here) and now I had better go and review the letter. Anyway I have spent hours on and off the phone to them and I do at least now know what I owe in every microscopic detail. It's not £10.50 I'm paying them, it's £11.30, I mis-remembered. What's worse is that when I break it down £8.86 of that is my current use so only £2.44 is going to the debt. I wish I was still an army wife, life was so much simpler when there was no water rates or council tax to think about. :(

So taking into account the proper water bill and the £22.60 I swear I am gonna go out and pay asap tomorrow it looks like this...

    Cleared...

    [STRIKE]Council tax arrears £161.29[/STRIKE] Cleared
    [STRIKE]Empire £131.00[/STRIKE] Cleared
    [STRIKE]Yes Insurance (car) £338.23[/STRIKE] Cleared
    [STRIKE]Wescot/Aviva £105.12[/STRIKE] Cleared
    [STRIKE]Electric arrears £158.85[/STRIKE] Cleared
    [STRIKE]Benefits Overpayment £185.97[/STRIKE] Cleared

    Being Paid Off...

    My Sister [STRIKE]£450*[/STRIKE] Now £250*
Rent arrears [STRIKE]£779.28[/STRIKE] Now £604.28 or less (needs update)
    RAC [STRIKE]£71.52[/STRIKE] Now £23.84
Water arrears [STRIKE]£790.54[/STRIKE] Will be £4.88 lower when I go out tomorrow and pay two lots of payments so will say it's £785.66 now to avoid confusion.

    Not Being Paid Off...
    Old Overdraft £2268
    Gas arrears £599.03
    Moorcroft/Orange £539.65
Barclaycard/Lowells £181 (statute barred and disputed anyway)

This makes a total original debt of £6759.19, of which I now have paid £1520.03 (22.49%) and have £5239.16 (77.51%) remaining.

I just wish the original debt figure would stop going up but then I suppose that is what you get when you don't deal with things, for whatever reasons, even persuasive ones. :( I am going to have another look at a DRO I think, I am getting despondant with all this trying to pay it off.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(
  • Hope DRO suitable but please dont be too disheartened you are working hard and making progress even if it doesnt seem it right now

    RANT- INCLUDES LANGUAGE!!!

The CCCS debt remedy still finds that I have £170 a month available (which I don't) no matter what I f.ucking do to the form. That is because it takes into account DLA (which is for mobility and care) but does not take into account what I totally legitimately spend the care part on.

I spend the care part on treatment not availale on the NHS. If I don't have the treatment I will never be well and it's not like its something crackpot and unproven, it's actually the number f.ucking one NICE recommendation for my condition. The b.astards at my local PCT do fund it but only for 2 years when they arbritrarily it cut off and render us all f.ucking useless and on life's scrap heap so we can claim many times more in benefits instead. That make sense to you taxpayers out there does it, because it's never made any f.ucking sense to me! They wont fund a small 4 figure sum a year to fix me over the course of the next 1-4 years but they will fund a massive 5 figure sum to let me rot indefinately- !!!!!!. Just to add f.ucking insult to f.ucking injury I wouldn't be ill at all if there hadn't been a monumental c.ock up by !!!!ing public sector staff. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the f.ucking government made me sick and now it wants to keep me sick and YOU are f.ucking paying for it. In the mean time I am doing f.uck diddly squatt when I could be earning a wage. SO that's what we want in this country eh. F.ucking cabbages.

I'm 30 f.ucking years old, I f.ucking want a life!!! DLA picks up the peices at least with regard to treatment... Except now it doesn't because I'm not allowed to even f.ucking count it. Why do I f.ucking bother? Someone tell me that? Because right now I have no f.ucking idea.

Treatment costs me £49 a fortnight or a week depending on how often I go, funnily enough this works out to £160pcm, which leaves a spare tenner, not a spare b.astarding £170! !!!!!! CCCS!!!!:mad::mad:

  • That doesnt seem right to me. Try calling them instead.

So sorry you are long term ill. You should talk to my OH 42 and been on the scrapheap for 10 years with no chance of improvment just the joys of his kidneys shutting down from painkillers!

I got him to do a DRO and it has helped immesely. It not like you need to have a clean credit rating for a job !!! As long as the debt is under 15000 and you have no assets over 300 except a car I think that was 1000 oh and they do count pensions DRO would be a good idea

Keep strong as they say dont let the B,,,,,,, get you down.

I'm sorry KP, I've calmed down now. It's just really frustrating, y'know? I have finally got to the point where I know a DRO is the best thing for me and I know I qualify on the basic things like assets, debt level, car value etc. and then I find I can't include the private healthcare, which is in my opinion the best possible thing I could spend the care component of my DLA on because it creates the only possibillity of not being off sick indefinately!

I am sorry to hear your partner has it rough too, it's horrible being on sickness benefits in this economic climate when so many seem so keen to judge (usually incorrectly). I'm glad he got the DRO though and I hope I get mine. I will call CCCS tomorrow and see what we can do.

  • No probs Hannah everyone has to vent. Life is so s..t at times. I just learning not to let it get me down but Im sure there will be some more curve ball thrown at me!

Known what you mean by judgemental. Im sooo sock of friends and family asking why OH cant get a little part time job. Do they really think someone who is high on painkillers 24/7 but still in pain not worked in years oh and is the main carer for three kids can just find a nice little job? Anyways sorry to hijack your thread.

  • PS hope call to CCCS goes well tomorrow. It really would be unfair for a little healthcare to stop it.

Hi Hannah - hope things are o.k? I would ignore the CCCS and get help from the CAB if possible. I believe they are approved intermediarys for the DRO and if bankrupts can put down their disability benefits and then put the same amount down for care needs then why can't you for a DRO? I believe the other option is to omit both on the forms but I can't see why you can't include the benefit and what you spend it on - it's not up to them is it - you get the money and you can spend it on what you feel best with regards to your illness.
If you can't go to the CAB I'm sure someone else can help with the forms etc - the bankruptcy board will probably have more info.
    Please look into it further.
    Best of Luck

    Thanks DF and KP.

I'm not so great. It's not my week.

On a financial level I don't want to go back to the CAB but I'm just finding it hard with the CCCS not seeming to have the same criteria as me. I'm starting to wonder if the truth is that I have lots of money and I'm not realising it? I know when I add up everything including the rent and council tax benefits it does come to something that sounds like a wage. I do want a DRO and I do remember many years ago seeing a breakdown of how benefits were calculated (so much for food, so much for electricity etc). I could really use one of those as a guide right now, does anyone know if they still create these?

In general this week isn't my greatest ever either, for lots of reasons. I probably shouldn't bother you with it, it's pretty bleak stuff, lots of crying. Think I might shuffle back to DFW and see if I can't distract myself a bit with some maths. I need a couple of really dire SOA's to savage, that should be a start. Or at least a DCA to kick, albeit vicariously.
