I hope theres some sky reps on here that reads this
I got sky in march 2008 in my house was already a sky + box and a normal box. I wanted to keep these but engineer wanted to take them away...
So he put an ordinary sky box in and off he went...no problems.
I also took the broadband and phone package about 50-60 ££ a month
Everything was going along fine until the reception went dodgey on the phones, bout 2 new digital phones, reception still not brilliant but alot better...
Phoned up and upgraded to 20mb broadband, what a mistake, nothing but trouble....internet goes off when it feels like it, slow, crashes....
Phoned sky a few times, done all the tests line, ok speed testing at 5.5mb (why pay for 20) still internet goes slow freezes, drops out. Computer next to broadband router.......other computer 5 yards away, has difficulty connecting....it is sky, changed, computer. Still the same.
We give up with broadband....have to put up with it, we did all the phone tests, nothing different
So we decided to get the full HD tv package...I`m now paying £90 a month....Guy puts HD box in living room, have multiroom on other box.
Well we all know what happened on Saturday HD went off....I know its ITV HD`s fault but my HD box is like it regularly, never mind what side your on, what time of day, it freezes, it gets stuck....we`ve phoned up been on the phone forever...Done a full system reset.
It makes no difference....
Phoned sky again today to complain...gave me the spiel about it being itv not there fault, as i was trying to explain to him, it happened after 4 minutes yes....but it happened a few timed to our hd and we went and watched it on a freeview tv as the sky was playing up....i explained all this...he passed me to someone else.....i explained it all again, and they wanted to go through all the tests again, delete everything on sky + again, and see how it goes...I keep telling them...it dont work...and whats the point of paying for sky plus so that everytime you ring them, you have to delete everything...
They did offer to send an engineer if i paid for it (no chance)...i asked for complaints department...transferred me to a manager...told him all the same thing, and also that their website faulty , if you try to email them a complaint it doesnt work...
He kept asking do i want to cancel contract which i cant because I`m in contract until november, thats when i had my sky hd....
So sky, my broadbands rubbish...20mb going at 5.5
My phone reception is rubbish.
My SKY HD is a waste of money and wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
And before you ask its not the TV I`ve had 2 new televisions since, a sony bravia and a samsung...
So I`ve changed my phones, my tv`s , reset my systems, deleted everything on sky +....and its still rubbish....so roll on November because this £90 customer is off to British Telecom

Sounds like you've had a dreadful time but do wonder if you've just been very unfortunate. We had SKY+ & SKYTALK Unlimited. We decided to switch to SKY B.B.Unlimited because AOL was so dire and we also moved our line from B.T. to SKY. This happened in April and it's been a completely hassle free success. Surprised you are paying so much for broadband & phone package - that sounds very expensive. We're currently getting a £5.00 a month discount (for 6 months) but my complete bill this month for TV/Phone/B.B./Line rental was approx. £47.00. We have 3 cordless phones & no problems. Hope you manage to resolve the problems.0

All i can say is Sky is bad, Virgin is worse & BT is like suicide.
The grass is not always greener. In BT's case is toxic lime green!Total Debt June 2010 - £21,793

would agree bt is toxic lime cant wait to go to sky !!!0

It's not really Sky's fault if your line can only support up to 5.5Mbps. What speed does your line physically support and did you check this before upgrading to 'up to 20Mbps' (it's not 20Mbps).
Post your router stats and someone can have a look for you.No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm in the process of moving all our TV/broadband/phone from Sky to Virgin because the broadband is so bad (we're lucky if we get 1Mbps down the line even though they are charging us for 10 and saying our usage is too high). Their call centres are also hopeless. I know Virgin haven't got a very good reputation for their call centres, but I have the rep's mobile number and if anything goes wrong, it is him who will be getting the hassle from me and not the call centre! Will let you know how it goes0

From the sounds of things, I am wondering if you have a lot of other wireless devices in your area.
Both your wireless router and your cordless phones (assuming they are recent and therefore digital) will be using the 2.4Ghz range. More importantly so will your neighbour's. Any baby monitors, wireless CCTV cams, many many things will be using the same frequency.
As far as wireless settings are concerned on your laptop, do you see a lot of other networks when you look? There are only so many channels so nowadays its not uncommon for conflicts to happen.
Have you tried plugging the computer into the router directly using a network cable?
It may be worth asking a techie friend or even getting a professional to do some troubleshooting. This is the sort of troubleshooting your standard Sky technical support cannot handle. It requires real knowledge rather than the standard scripts they use.
From what you've said you may moving to BT and having the exact same problems.
As for 5.5Mbit, that's actually above average. You won't get anywhere near 20Mbit unless you live inside the telephone exchange!
Even then probably not. Its really poor advertising in my opinion. Almost as bad as "Unlimited" (subject to a x MB cap).
As for HD channels, I dunno whats going on. But if its any consolation, I use Freesat which is essentially the same satellite. I tested it all working a few days before the match, ITV HD worked a treat. Then on the day it didnt work. (Lucky really with hindsight). Ditto the other night when I went to watch a match on BBC HD. Today BBC HD was back again.0 -
Thank you for your input Digitaljedi, I`ve tried alot of what you said, even to the extreme where the phones are on the ground floor working on a different frequency to the broadband, and the router on the top floor.(3 stories)
I have looked at every option i can think of.
Its still the same with an ethernet cable and when i asked at the start of the upgrade i was assured my line would support it, but they sell boxes and scripts when talking to the public and will tell you anything.
When searching for networks, we only get our own because we live in a detached stone house...so no problems with other peoples networks
As regard the HD satellite it wasnt just the footy, it happens regularly, so by phoning sky i was hoping they`d look into.
Im actually an ex bt engineer so i have quite a few techie things i`m aware of, posting here i was hoping sky would read in and sort it out, but thanks again for the input, nice to hear someone thinks along the same lines as myself.:T:TChallenge 2018 - Learn by heart the Book by Wayne Morgan on Amazon - Betfair Football Trading as it helps to supplement my small income :beer:0 -

hi susan,
I work for sky and will do my best to help.
I dont have any details for you... but.
as far as your HD goes if you have had it under 12mth we should come out and fix the box for free.
if you have had it over 12 mths then im affraid its down to the rep you speak to over the phone if the charge you or not.
as for the BB im a little lost why that would happen.
Did you have the BB upgraded before having the multiroom??
check the DSL filters in the house, Is there one on the multiroom box.(thats important) we do get reports of multiroom boxes without filters...0 -
I am looking to get a HD LCD TV and have seen one I like. It makes sense that I subscribe to a tv package that provides HD content. Has anyone signed up to SKY HD and what is the quality like? Or should I go Virgin?0
