It all depends on which variety you grow. Spuds are classified as 'early', 'second-early', or 'maincrop'. 'Early varieties should be OK as soon as the flowers are open (mid to late June), but the others will be 2 or 4 weeks later.0

Can I grow potatoes in a black recycling box? (I have a spare as council changed colours). Is it tall enough and how many potatoes should I put in?
Mine are currently growing in an old toy box, the plants on them are huge so hopefully they're ok, usually grow them in pots but theres probably more room in the boxes.0 -
