I saw an item on the news a few days ago, about the high price of gas and leccy. They interviewed a mum of 2 (I think) who said that the cost of leccy was so high, she couldn't afford to heat up the oven to cook, so she "HAD" to feed the family on ready meals that she could just bung in the microwave to heat up!! Madness. Now there was a woman who needed to be introduced to Old Style, without a doubt.0

When I had no oven for a week we still had home cooked food on the gas hob as well as meals done in the slow cooker and stir fries etc."This site is addictive!"

I really don't like the taste of ready cooked meals, they are too sweet (full of sugar) and don't fill you up imo it really needn't take long to knock up a meal from scratch especially with all the timesaving gadgets that are now available. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

The mind boggles! Hasn't she heard of jacket potatoes? Or slow cookers?;)
We're fortunate enough to have a convection grill/combi microwave and ever since I discovered how miserly it is with electricity (not as good as a slow cooker but better by far than the oven as things cook much quicker and there's no heating up time) I'm trying to use it all the time!0 -

and they all taste the same, no matter what bizzare combinations* the manufacturers dream up, you'd be hard put to distinguish them in a blidfold test

What stunned be with some ready made meals that I've encountered, was that the reheat time was not far off the time it took to create the things from scratch, and it would grieve me to have a whole oven on, just for one measley boxed meal.

I don't think I've ever had a ready meal, it's just never occured to me. I like an occasional fish and chips though;)0

Bachelors pasta in sauce - cooks in 12 minutes!
Well guess what sunshine- so does real pasta, plus it has the added advantage of not dying your saucepan day-glo yellow.
