Moving house with Sky

Hi all,

Has anyone had any luck moving to a new house with sky and avoiding the £60 installation charge? I have just phoned them up to try and get it for free, and they would not budge. Threatened to cancel my existing service and still no joy.

If I cancelled my account at my old address, then moved home, is there anything to stop my signing up to a brand new account at my new address? Or would they recognise me as an old customer from my name?

Thanks

Sky rarely budge on the moving home issue, mostly they'll do it for is £40.Best bet is cancell & sign up at the new address, then you'll get new kit. However if the's already a dish on your new home, simply move your services yourself & sod the moving home fee, just tell them your new address.
Although I'd go with the new install option.
  • Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'm going to have to cancel my service

I'm in a similar situation. But can you start a new install with one of the free offers if it's still in your name - even if it is a new address?

At a new address yes,at the same address you have to wait a few month's before you can sign up again after cancelling.

We were with Sky at our old house and when i rang to cancel they said we could have it installed in this new house for free.

Told them No as we wanted to go with Virgin, but I'd keep on at them.

That was in March this year.

    Hi there

I am also debating this... however I may need a non-standard install - does anyone know how much this costs?

Basically I am vacating my old place on Wednesday - weighing up whether it is worth cancelling, even though I will have to pay the 31 days notice even though I am not there, then become a new customer at my new address, or whether I should just transfer our current Sky account and pay the £65 install fee. However, worried it will cost way more than that if I need a non-standard install!

Sorry if that is a bit rambling, but any advice would be much appreciated!

Would help if you explained what you consider 'non-standard install'.

I saw on the Sky website that they don't install in houses with cladded walls. This is quite a broad term, and we have just bought a timber frame house with brick cladding, which is sturdier than other types of cladding such as plasterboard or stone cladding. Therefore they may actually be able to install on the wall as per usual, or they may have to do it elsewhere...
  • Unless the new sky account is in a different name with different bank details for the direct debit then they wont set it up. It will get declined when they send the viewing card out.

To get a new account after canceling you have to be away from sky for at least 12 months.

If there is a dish on the new property then you can move the box and cabling yourself and then ring them and change the address on your account.
  • My new phone line is installed on Mondy and I shall be ringing Sky to join as a 'new' customer, I will let you know if it works
