Yes, that's a decent price for the units. Try for more than that on all the sundry items like plinth, end panels etc.

We've got a number of properties that we rent and a couple that we sold. You can't get a much tougher market than the student market and the Wickes off the shelf kitchen that we put in there 3 years ago still looks like new. House is a bit wiffy after they've vacated for the summer.

I'd have had something similar - but the cost of the 15mm off the shelf units from Wickes was about 30% more than the 18mm units from Ikea and there was a bit more choice. I'm not knocking Wickes just delighted to have got an even better bargain at Ikea.

My neighbour has just spent 3.7k on units from Howdens in the same size kitchen as mine. For less money I got solid oak worktops (hers are laminate), all my appliances including 5yr guarantee (neighbour didn't get any) and delivery. Neighbours "discount" for Howdens was 75%. Ok I have to make the units up- but there's not that many of them .... an extra day's work for huge savings.

It'll be a while before we buy another house but when we do if it needs a kitchen I'll be going to Ikea. :)

You put solid oak worktops in student lets then do you? Do you find them more hard wearing for the students?

Refreshing this old post for PWL who was looking for information on Howden's prices.

I found this topic useful for information on Howdens.

We were quoted 8.5k Haworth oak and 5.5k for Burford oak.

Changed my mind and waiting on them getting back to us with a Burford white matt.

Those prices were with Beko appliances.

We did try Ikea but we wanted white shaker and they didn't have it. Their cream shaker was nice, but I really wanted white, and Howden's seems to be the only place with white matt shaker.

Besides, we've got the estimate and plans all done now and we are very happy. We also get our keys in 10 days and now have less shopping time. Howden's deliver very quickly too.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.:)

I was going to go for a haworth white from howdens but didn't like their whole secretive prices issue and also found it a little too yellowy cream. The Ikea Ramsjo is definitely whiter.
