Howdens prices - Burford white

Options
Hi

I'm looking to work out how much our new kitchen units will cost from Howdens, it's the Burford White kitchen. I have checked the prices on Top Class Carpentry and found the following prices:-

1000mm base x 4 @ £257 = £1028
600mm larder x 2 @ £415 = £830
600mm drawer pack £542 (ouch?)
150mm wine rack £144 (ouch for what it is!)
600mm oven housing £128
1000mm wall x 2 @ £215 = £430

Total price £3102

I know people are saying that Top Class Carpentry figures can be used as a guide, but this seems pricey to me. Is it a guide to the full price (then deduct discount) or does it look like it's really going to cost me £3k for this stuff? If so, I'll consider looking elsewhere as I'd like to get it cheaper than that.

Any clues would be much much appreciated! Many thanks.

It does depend on the range but I'd halve that price. It's over the top.

Drawer packs and wine racks are quite expensive compared to regular units, but still around half the price you've quoted there.

    Thanks for that.

I can do away with the drawer pack and wine rack and take a 800 drawerline base instead. Not totally sure yet which option to go for, but just chose one to price it up.

£1500 sounds much better of course. Any other thoughts welcome too!

Anyone else got any thoughts on the price? Want to be prepared, if it's £3k, I think I might look elsewhere at kitchens too, but I guess if it's half or less then it would be a fair price and I do really like it. Also need to find a joiner that will pass on their discount to us, rather than snaffling it!

The price is too much for howdens.

    1500 - 1800 as about right

Remember also plinths, end panels, cornice. light pelmet etc.

I know, never added plinth, worktop etc. Not sure if we will have pelmet or cornice, will it be much nicer on a shaker range? Only need one end panel, for one larder unit as it's a galley kitchen so no ends. Only other end over by the door will have a worktop overhang, so don't think I need an end panel there since the kitchen is white matt so the end panels may even be fine as they are - I would expect the carcases to be white?

Cornice etc is down to choice but I think it looks better with it.

The carcasses are white - but the Burford white is a different white to the white of the carcass so you may need end panels. You will need one end panel surely on the larder unit?

Also, if you are having a wall unit either side of the cooker hood, you will need end panels there.

Thanks for that - forgot about the ones at the cooker hood to be honest!

Another thing, we have already bought our oven hob and hood. The hood is a chimney style extractor. It's 600mm wide. Should the wall units touch the hood (ie be in line with the floor units either side of the 600mm over housing), or should there be a gap, if so how much.

Its ok to have the chimney touching. In fact you will need to have it touching or the wall units will not line up with the floor units and it will look a bit odd. If you put end panels on the wall units next to the cooker hoiod you will also need to balance it by having end panels between the oven housing unit and the units either side, again to balance the units up.

You don't need a gap by the chiney but you do need end panels included in the space.

The white units are nowehere near good enough to be ends in themselves. You must buy end panels.

They do a beech unit which you should get for the same price as white. Whilst you won't see it on the outside, it does look so much better than the white carcasses because they look a bit grubby - almost transparent which i think is the issue. And they don't stain with sticky jam jars etc!

Just wanted to provide a brief update on the costs in case it helps anyone. I have a Howden's printout with 72% discount - so my joiner has pssed me the discount.

    1000mm base £102
    600mm drawer pack £88
    500mm wall unit £51
    Larder Unit £153
    Worktop £72 for 3m
    Basic sink £32
    Victorian Tap £60

Obviously this isn't all I'm getting but thought this would help.
