Yes but was it you who used these kitchens over a long period? or did you just fit them?

We've got a number of properties that we rent and a couple that we sold. You can't get a much tougher market than the student market and the Wickes off the shelf kitchen that we put in there 3 years ago still looks like new. House is a bit wiffy after they've vacated for the summer.

I'd have had something similar - but the cost of the 15mm off the shelf units from Wickes was about 30% more than the 18mm units from Ikea and there was a bit more choice. I'm not knocking Wickes just delighted to have got an even better bargain at Ikea.

My neighbour has just spent 3.7k on units from Howdens in the same size kitchen as mine. For less money I got solid oak worktops (hers are laminate), all my appliances including 5yr guarantee (neighbour didn't get any) and delivery. Neighbours "discount" for Howdens was 75%. Ok I have to make the units up- but there's not that many of them .... an extra day's work for huge savings.

It'll be a while before we buy another house but when we do if it needs a kitchen I'll be going to Ikea. :)

Looking at the 500 high line, that is a LOT.

For my burford I'm £73 for a 600 high line base.

Before discount, which is a % anyway:-
An 8 unit example for Burford is £2,370
An 8 unit example for Haworth is £6,478

So, I would reckon that a 600mm Highline base in Haworth should be £199. I think then that your price sounds right, albeit expensive but you've chosen an expensive kitchen:( I take it you know what you want though!

thanks for the comparison , it sounds thereabouts an okay discounted price, think we will go with it , I knows it expensive as far as howdens go but as you say I knew that when I chose it, and as long as I am getting the same deal percentage wise as most then I am happy,

I'm led to believe I've got a good price, however Doozergirl does think maybe she could get more than 72% discount. I'm a real moneysaver, and even I think I'm getting a good deal :p

My worry now is that the joiner is coming around 5pm tuesday (we get our keys tuesday) and when I called to arrange and ask if he can fit next weekend as previously discussed he didn't give me a very direct 'yes', it was 'that should be fine' etc. It's worrying me a little, but hubby just thinks he's being laid back in his talk about it. 2 days till we get the keys so things that aren't really a problem might be starting to worry me! :p

oh I am sure all is well, men just are more laid back, I am sick of thinking about this kitchen now and even if I could save a few hundred more getting others to get quotes I am not sure I have the energy !!, guess the answer is to stop looking !!

If you really like it and it is within your budget then go for it. If you don't move you will have it for a long time!

We have a whole house to renovate so we're on a budget because of the multiple jobs (and also a natural instinct to save money :rotfl:).

I saw your at my local Howden's on a mini-display and it was very nice!

won't be going anywhere fast this is our grow old house, unless we start rattling round when kids leave home which these days is about aged 30 !! Will enjoy my kitchen for years to come,
On another note the joiner doing our kitchen was able to get better deal on work tops elsewhere, and we have ditched the dishwasher as Lamona appliances don't seem to get great reviews, good luck with the renovations , signing off until the next saga !!
