Hey everyone! Well done on the sales retiredandskint and ebayqueen - I've not sold anything yet, though three of my relists are being bid on on ebay so that's good.

Lucky escape with the magazine retired!

Glad you managed to get the magazine DDFW, it's always nice to get a freebie!

The last few days have been hectic again. DH is having a down spell so it's been tough at home again. There's just no picking him up out of it, he just sits in a big cloud of gloom. :(

I redid my SOA the other day and it tells me I'm £200 short  No wonder it's been so tough the last few months. It's not actually that much in reality as I overestimated many of the items rather than underestimate, but it does prove that there's not a lot of space there. I've also got no contingency for emergencies so I still rely on cards. This needs to be sorted next year for sure.

  • Sorry to hear OH is not good at the moment JWIL it can't be easy for the both of you. I know you're desperate to clear the clutter but try and take some time out for you. You need it and you deserve it.

Sorry to hear that, Jwil, that's so hard for you to deal with. :( I know I find my DH's negativity hard to deal with at times, but that's just his way, he's always been a glass-half-empty kind of person (and God knows, he always has a glass in his hand to look at).

Is your DH's troubles down to his job again - or the time of year. It is a damned depressing time of year.

That's not good. It's a good job you use ebay and amazon with such success. You've done really well this year though, remember that, and just adjust things for next year. Having a bit of emergency money stashed away is a nice feeling as well so I agree it's worth giving that a go. :)

Take care of yourself Jwil, you are carrying the cares of both of you on your shoulders.

Thanks retired, we have stuff planned for the next two weekends, so hopefully a couple of days out will help.

I do think though that the clutter does contribute - you know what they say about messy house messy mind or something similar? We don't have one single room in the house that does not have piles of stuff in it and it affects me, so I'm sure it affects him too, though he can't see it.

I'll try and take it a bit easier though. :)

Thanks peaceandfreedom - my DH is a very negative person generally too, so it's hard anyway - I'm an optimist so we are polar opposites in that end.

I think it's a combination of both - he's had a rubbish week again at work, which has got him down, plus it's the time of year when it's too dark/wet for him to do some of his hobbies so he doesn't get the relief he would in the summer.

I'm definitely going to work on the emergency stash. I'm working on a new plan for next year and going to include that. I'm thinking that even £500 would be enough to cover most things for the time being. I'm certainly not yet in a position to get a few months salary put away, but £500 will hopefully be manageable for now.

  • Wooooohooooo! You're back jwil :j:j:j so pleased to see you posting again hon - i know its only been a few days really since your last one and i was going to post today to say that i hoped you and your family were ok - I think thats the things with the forums which i *do* love for their anonimity but there is no other way of checking if anyone is ok ((hugs)) to you and i really hope your hubby starts to feel better soon - is he still seeing the counsellor? I know you said they had worked wonders for him.

I too am usually a very positive person but after a hellish day at work the other day i found myself in the shops and in my mind i actually was aware that i was thinking 'i'll buy myself something pretty and that will cheer me up':eek::eek: (Un)Fortunately i have no money at all so buying something wasn't possible and also as i had a *need* to be away from work on my lunch there really isn't anywhere else to go and its far too cold to just sit outside and read now :( I know how utterly down i felt and i'm sure this is only a fraction of the feeling your OH must have to cope with so i can only try and understand how difficult it is for him and then for you too x

Jwil - i agree the clutter can't be helping though i understand your situation is different to mine and i can only wish i had so much to sell :o

retiredandskint - hope all is well with you and that you have more eb*y sales :)

peaceandfreedom - how are you? Has your OH got any offers of work? Hope things aren't too difficult for you x

Thanks DDFW, it's so true, I really miss you all when you disappear for a while and I wonder if everything's ok.

He's just finished with the counsellor, which is a shame, but hopefully it won't be too bad. Although he's been down this week, it's noticeable that it's not *quite* as bad as before, still not pleasant though.

I know what you mean about lunchtimes - I have to get out of the office, and there's nowhere really to go. I have in the past just sat outside with a book - it's cold, but I got used to it. These days I just sit in my car. Still cold, as I feel bad about running the engine, but more sheltered so not so bad.

Sorry you were feeling down though, it's not nice when it happens.

The clutter thing is a double edged sword. I hate it more than anything, but I am also aware that it is my lifeline at the moment, and will be for the foreseeable future. I know I've still got loads to sell, and it's not stuff which is precious to me. Shame it's all so low value though - I have to list LOADS to get a decent amount in :rotfl:

I'm fine thanks, DDFW. :) I'm very busy and I've had a domestic-goddess sort of day, getting all kinds of cooking and other stuff done in the kitchen, took stuff to the tip etc.

DH hasn't started looking for another job yet, he's still discussing the ending of his current one. They haven't exactly played fair so far.

Still, with every bit of clutter that leaves the house, you're making money, so it's a double whammy.

I need to get back to decluttering again, I've let things slide a bit recently.:o

    Hi Jwil

So sorry that you are having a rough time with your hubby. Depression is an absolute curse, you wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy. It affects everyone around you and you can't see it. All you can think about it yourself and how you are feeling. I hope the worst passes soon, hopefully your plans for the next few weekends will help him. HUGS to you Jwil, God bless you.

You mention the fact that there are no clutter free areas in your home to escape to. What about you pick 1 room and completely clear it out into another one. Give it a lick of paint and use it to read in etc. Is that possible.

    Take care
    E
