I agree with you 100%. It's not the 'South Africa Cup', it's the 'World Cup' and they are merely temporary custodians of the competition. The noise is atrocious, has no relationship to events on the field and is just a horrible constant racket. Broadcasters, players and fans are all complaining about it.
It has the potential to spoil the whole competition, and could even get worse as we get into the later stages. By all means let them do it during their domestic games but FIFA and the Stadium Authorities should do something to ensure the rest of the world can enjoy it.
I don't care if it is part of the culture. Pitch invasions, mass fighting and drunken disordliness used to be part of the English football culture (maybe still are) but that doesn't mean we have to put up with it.
One guy from South Africa on the Sky News comments box put it so eloquently
" I am an african through and through but am amused by the ignorance that the vuvuzela represents. We who have the most beautiful voices in the world choose to showcase our culture to the world by blowing into a plastic horn, delighting more in the negative reaction than blowing the world away with the powerful harmony of african song. It is like having a ferrari parked in the garage at a motor show, while bringing out our bicycles and honking the rubber horn. VIVA Africa."0 -
