Our local beach is no dogs all summer long, there are stretches of beach further along they are allowed to use, with a promenade and cycle path to access them.

There are still dogs on the beaches though.:(

Our beach has repeatedly won the blue flag award, that certainly helps tourism for our local area.

Keeping a few of the local dog walkers away won't cost them any moey.

feel free to push me off the end of the pier for not agreeing with your views.;) I was not going to bother to post till I read how rudely the other poster with a different view was treated. Many people are terrified of dogs as adults because of incidents when they were young. Maybe this will prevent a few incidents and keep more people LIKING dogs?;)

eta, found this link - is THIS it? The one with the unofficial nudist area? :)

I dont think the local dog walkers are the issue here, its the many hundreds of dog owners that like to take thier holidays in England. They/we bring in a lot of revenue to your resorts. I for one wouldnt visit a resort that didnt cater for my dog.

Humans leave much more mess on our beaches, I have seen dirty nappies condoms the lot on some beaches, so to complain about dogs on there makes me laugh.

If your local beach and its residents can aford to lose our custom then you all must be very rich.

I do abide by the rules I only walk on beaches where dogs are allowed, (there are many scattered about) and believe me they are far cleaner than the pubic beaches where the lolly wrappers, crisp packets, tissues and the like blow about freely in the wind.

So when the towns are moaning of the lack of visitors then all I can say it serves you right.

Edited to add a picture 086.jpg?t=1277628773DSCF0006.jpg?t=1277628676 To see a dog enjoying the beach is a sight to behold.

We have dog bans on many of the beaches where I live during these months so that people are not pestered by dogs on the beach.

For every good dog owner there are at least two or three that don't pick up dog mess, allow their dogs to intimidate other people and their dogs and generally behave badly.

When the bans originally came in I felt that this was very unfair. However having had several years now to get used to it, it does mean that there are beaches where there are no dogs - perfect for people who have children who don't like or are afraid of dogs. Equally there are beaches for dogs so people who go on there can't complain about them running about.

I can see that this will make life very difficult for you - could the ban be applied say between the hours of 10.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. meaning before and after these hours dogs would be allowed? This is how horses are dealt with during the summer months in our area and it works well now the riders have got used to it.
I have been scared of people a number of times on the beach...yes people.
I have had to sometimes pass gangs of kids who litter the beaches with cans and they light fires.
Local people can go down to the beaches in the evening and people have left tons of litter. Children poo in the sea and also the sand too. We have found many buried nappies.

All this behaviour is just as bad from Humans as it is for some dogs.

Why punish ALL dogs and owners? Surely a restriction on times is good enough?
Say before 10am and after 6pm during season (Apr-Oct) and all times after?

Are you a visitor to beaches or do you live near a beach?

I'm for a dog ban on all beaches; in fact our local council is putting through legislation as we speak to make my local beach dog-free :T
It's been an open air dog's toilet too long.

For every dog owner that 'picks up' after their beloved pet and doesn't let it hassle other people, there are many more that don't give a damn.

Here's to picnics on the beach again! :T

Not counting your off shore pipe that pours human waste into sea. But i guess thats acceptable as its human waste.

Your local businesses will soon start moaning when thier profits fall.

Why cant everyone learn its good to share, some humans make mess on beaches and leave it fester, same as some dogs owners dont clean up. Its 50/50 isnt it, this world was made for us all to enjoy, so in my mind that means "everyone" not just humans.
