No, actually the argument put forward in that particular post was the OP couldn't sign on, on a particular date because they were taking their child on holiday.
Can't do this, can't do that. But more than capable of visiting a foreign country. Even though I've had a decade to plan it I want to take my child on holiday NOW!
Oh wait this isn't going in my favour, hmmmm what can I say now?
    Oh I know........

Not really the same is it?

Feel free to twist another old post :T

I wasn't twisting and I don't remember who said what about/to whom. But there were plenty of comments like "I know so and so and they're deaf and work so.... " etc etc.

You're quite right, it was a bit of a different scenario, but that was part of the argument put forward.

    Ah, but wasn't it more a case of;
Parents lived in Greece and bought tickets for deaf son/daughter (can't recall) and deaf grandchild to visit them finally for two weeks, and the two weeks coincided with childs 10th birthday - that meant he had to move to signing on - on a date they would be away.

The omission of circumstances can change the story, tremendously. ;)
All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.

Autism is a really good example in this - at one end of the spectrum it's Aspergers, and most people with Aspergers are able to hold down jobs, earn a living and live a good life. At the other end you have full blown autism that requires 24/7 care. It's all Autism, but with varying degrees of ability and what one person can do, may be vastly different to what another can do.

All I meant by my comment was that I'd be happy to have a name for it so that I could now start treatment, and it's nice to hear of some positive comments about others coping with it. Of course I would not take medical advice from anybody on the forum, but she wasn't getting a diagnosis or medical treatment here was she?

I think I know what you meant, but my memory for names and mental dexterity are simply not sharp enough to afford me the luxury of carrying a grudge from one thread to another.

    'Tis true.

Many of the greatest minds were autistic to some degree like...umm Robert Napper the murderer;)

No in all seriousness. Even George Orwell, was supposedly on the autisic spectrum (not quite sure of the truth in that). Mind you, despite an Eton education, I dont think he did to well in academically. Just shows to go you that school isn't everything.

Qualified to give a prognoses based on an internet message board post? That IS impressive. Not that I would trust it, of course.

    Prognosis.

Not too worried whether you find it impressive or not. Or whether you believe it or not.

I do currently work as an NHS consultant and the advice was sensible.

You make a valid point - no one can trust anyone posting something on the internet.

Perhaps we should just close all advice forums down?

If you read my post I wasnt offering medical advice, which would be wrong, merely giving my opinion on the OP's condition

Ah of course you are :D

Take some of your own advice Dr.
Don't assume OP will recover let alone be feeling better in a few weeks.
Not to mention the assumption it won't prevent them from working.

I think someone has been watching too much Casualty
    Or maybe you're a Holby man/woman?
