I had thought of this as the previous tenant had about a squillion debts. I always either ring the number in the letter or send the letter back saying they don't live here, doesn't always work though. I am still getting letters now saying the debts are being passed on to collecters! Good luck to them!0 -
If they get hold of your phone number, they sometimes start harrassing you, according to others.0

sounds like a debt collection agency0

we had similar recently. telling me they were trying to deliver my 'free' phone. it wasnt free. barstewards.
as for bailiff letters. we get/got them from time to time when we first moved here for the previous tenant. i would open them and give them a ring and give them his new address (he advertises his business in yellow pages)There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
020 is a geographical number so this is not a premium rate call scam. If you have the Primus Saver plan, you can phone it free in the evenings and weekends, or use 1899 to call the number in the daytime for 3p. If you want to.0

Bin it. Do not reply under any circumstances. Don't waste time, money or effort trying to find out who sent it. If you receive letters addressed to previous tenants about debts, return them to sender. Do not write to them or 'phone them. Once someone has YOUR name, 'phone number, or contact details they are likely to hound you.
If it was from someone you know, or if it was important they will contact you again.

I had one through the door this morning BUT it was handed to me by a delivery guy.
Its just staggering really! No phone number and signed it as Laura.
What on earth does it all mean? At least the flowers that came with the card were nice.

Just had one of these in the post this morning - from "Alex". In the hope that more people find this thread, I'm going to post the phone number given in a variety of ways so that search engines can pick it up (took me a while to find this post). I took one look at it and thought "scam". I'm not sure what people mean when they say that it could be related to debt collectors - why would they want people who don't owe them anything to call them? (read: nobody has any debts in the household)
The item of mail that we received is a postcard that has printed and handwritten parts. The addressee is handwritten, which is unusual these days for a mass mailing. It was sent using a 1st class stamp, and the postmark is from Greenford/Windsor, UB6 0GG. On the reverse of the postcard is printed "*URGENT* Please call Alex" (the word "Alex"is handwritten) and the phone number is 020 8901 7352. However, the first "0" in the phone number is on a sticker, covering up a +44 so it is possible that this has been sent to people overseas as the number would read +44 20 8901 7352. Finally, at the bottom of the postcard is printed "Ref:" and handwritten in is a number. I believe that even if you called from a different phone, they would be able to link the reference number to your address on the front. The only way would be to call from a public phone and make up a reference number.
I hope the search engines find this!
