Well, Be* have just enabled your local exchange, so you can get up to 24Mbps (ADSL2+) with them for £24pm; 3 month notice period.

Or if you want standard ADSL, then take a look at Freeola, UKFSN or Zazizam.

If you want people to give specific packages that might suit you, then you need to specify what usage you're likely to need (eg 2GB, 30GB, unlimited).

Well that was a constructive post. :T (just as constructive as most your your recent posts)

As I said, if the estimated usage figures were supplied, then more suitable products could be suggested, plus I gave example ISPs that provide standard ADSL at cheap rates.

I have simply given the option of an "unlimited" service which I reckon is the best value available (against 2Mbps unlimited ADSL of £21.99pm, or 8Mbps unlimited at £29.99pm). - and last time I checked, "up to 24Mbps" was "with a minimum of 2MB".

Obviously, if lower usage caps is what is wanted (which will be known when the OP replies) then there are cheaper options around the £14 mark.

Stick with Telewest, for broadband they are great, just dump the landline and switch to VoIP.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

AFAIK no VOIP provider supports/guarantees emergency 999 calls - after all the last thing you want is the house in flames and the inability to call the emergency services!

I've had no problems having no landline for the last 12+ months, have a mobile if I need 999, but if the house was in flames the last thing I would be doing is staying in the house calling 999, I'd be getting out and then dialling 999.

hehe ... you always got a mobile or you can shout "phone the fire brigade" out the window.

If your signing up to cable again, you can get cashback with quidco. £40 with telewest and its cheaper now.

Exactly, I can remember a time when hardly anyone own a home phone, had to make do with the phone box on the corner.

There is two ways you can make a phone call to a person in this world.

    1. With the normal telephone (PSTN)
    2. Over the internet (VOIP)

Your voice is broken up into millions of bits and sent across the net, just like an email or music download. As you can imagine a human is not bothered if an email takes a while to arrive but with voice you really depend on it being quick to prevent a distorting voice sound on the call. Therefore you need to make sure you are not downloading heavily when you are talking, this is the first limitation.

With VOIP over you have two options. Download "voice software" such as the well known https://www.skype.com which lets you talk to any other skype user in the world for free. You can buy a headset or normal looking phone which plugs into your PC. The downside here is that your PC must be on to make or recieve calls. If you don't mind your PC being on 24/7, this is a good option for a replacement landline.

The next option is "VOIP Hardware" .... suppliers such as https://www.vonage.com offer a VOIP box which plugs directly into your broadband. You can plug a normal phone into this box and make calls just as a normal landline. Infact you will not notice the difference between this and normal calling. This is a more expensive option but works even when your PC is off.

I am making an educated guess here but I would suspect most people on ADSL, who have a BT landline are more likely to take the software route. This is because they have a fixed landline and can load up skype whenever they like to make calls. Those who have cable with no telephone may be more inclined to go with vonage or a similar supplier.

Skype is free, you pay per call (low prices arond the world) and can a small figure for a telephone number/answer service.

Vonage costs approx £5.99 a month, lets you phone other vonage people around world for free and all UK landline numbers for free.

    Hope this helps.
