Move mortgage mountain project

julliff - I quite understand how you would want to safeguard your financial privacy in this situation. Being realistic, I think that there's at least a strong possibility that your ex's girlfriend could check out your financial affairs,(if she hasn't already!) if she has bank clearance to access the bank's computers. Obviously there is a strict bank protocol about respecting a client's confidentiality, but who's to say that somebody wouldn't have a quick sneaky peek if they were curious, even if they didn't pass the information on to anybody?
If you were really anxious about this probably the only solution would be to move your bank accounts to another bank altogether which has no trading connection with your existing bank. This sounds a drastic move but it's probably the only way you would protect yourself because bank computer systems now work on a national basis, with bank accounts being accessible via computer at any branch. Abank's employee in Huddersfield, for example, could log into the system of ABC Bank, and if they knew the account number and sort code, could conceivably check the details of somebody with an account in Brighton or wherever.
If you're concerned about this, perhaps you should have a word with the manager of your local branch and check out exactly how their client confidentiality protection system works. Perhaps somebody on this thread works in a bank and can throw more light on this.0 -
I strongly agree with the poster above about speaking to the bank manager and then possibly changing the bank you have your accounts with. Do you know this girl's name? Does you ex know you have your accounts in that bank?
In your position, and I know I have a tendency towards paranoia lol, I would really want to protect myself and my information and would not delay taking all steps to ensure my privacy. Trust no-one is pretty much my motto! (sadly from experience)

Hi, thanks for the replies.
I don't know whether x knows I have my accounts there, but I did open my business account over two years ago, so he could very well.
Sooo, I have put in an application to Santander, which in trues MFW form is offering a £100 switching bonus (not sure if they will pay that to me or my co, but, hey it's free money). My company name includes my surname.
I will leave my mortgage where it is, because I have a good deal. Not so bothered about this. Likewise I have a current account there, but as it is not my main c/a, I won't move that either.
I only know the girlfriend first name, not her last name.
Today is x's birthday. Felt a bit sorry for girls, as X is true to type. DD1 went to town yesterday to buy her Dad card and present, (DD2 has already organised). They had arranged to go to see X in the evening. BUT, when he rang last night he told DD2 that he would be out all day til 6, and then he was going out at 7.30pm! DD1 did not take this well, understandably, especially as when he asked if new g/friend should come or did they want it to just be the 3 of them, they both opted for just the 3. Anyway, he said they could go along with them and the friend (male) with whom he had arranged the meal, so much for the 3 of them.
Nice of him to squeeze them in!
On the plus side, I booked the hire car for our holiday, so that's another thing arranged. I managed to get a better price than last year, and £32 on quidco too!"Carpe Diem"

Afternoon!
Well, I seem to have started a new chapter.
For various reasons, it looks like my income is going to be much reduced this year - by about a third!
So it is indeed going to be a challenge not only to manage the budget, but to still find something extra to pay off the Mortgage.
I am not going to throw in the towel, but I will be upping my game! If I manage to still overpay SOMETHING, I will be happy.
So, today is day 1.
Last week the girls ate out with their Dad twice, so I don't have as much food shopping to do for dinners (Although I have got my rather large family coming over, and I have to do a finger buffer).
This morining, DD1 made herself a "special" breakfast which included using the middle out of a couple of slices of bread, so I put the rest in a bag and into the freezer - will use them up next time I make meatballs.
It is free listing weekend on ebay, so I am probably going to list a few things.
Will look at the OS board for some more ideas!
Here goes!"Carpe Diem"

Hi Juliff
Has your day rate fallen or will you be working less hours?
If you are workng less hours then hopefully you will have time to be extra OS.
I am also intending to put some things on ebay this weekend to take advantage of the free listing.

Hi Juliff
Thought I would pop in to visit your post and say Hi.
Sorry to hear about your reduced income but well done on being so upbeat about it all. I could do with taking a leaf out of your book. DH always calls me 'half empty'!
Just wanted to say that we have been doing ebay this weekend - for the first time! DD2 has listed a new board game that was very expensive to buy but but never used. We are both so excited because it is up to £7!!!!:D I work opposite a small village post office so posting parcels is never an issue but it will be interesting to see if we have priced the postage correctly!:o0 -
You have a great attitude, julliff. Of course a reduction in income will make a difference, but it's great that you want to carry on trying to OP what you can. Even quite small OPs do make a difference when you consider all the compound interest.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Hi all,
thanks for your comments.
I can't resist a challenge, and that what it seems like at the moment. Not sure if I will be so upbeat when reality kicks in!
Contracts have been rewritten. We can accept the new rates, or choose to go. Have been thinking about trying to negotiate a better rate than the offer, but only work 4 days - we'll see.
Anyway, thought about the family do tomorrow, and I texted round to see if chilli & jacket spuds with salad would be acceptable, and everyone was very enthusiastic! This will work out loads cheaper, and less work too! Everyones a winner!
Created meal plan for next week:
Monday - DD1 is cooking a surprise dinner for me (my birthday)
Tuesday - chicken risotto
Weds - Tuna & Pasta bake
Thurs - Casserole
Friday - chicken thighs with jackets & salad
Saturday - HM Fish & Chips
Sunday - Roast chicken dinner
Monday - Chicken tikka with leftover chicken.
Another bonus is that my Mume cam round with a bag full of unused makeup that she did not want - all good stuff YSL, ES etc. Had a go with it this morning and it is fab!
stedwell - I know exactly what you mean about the ebay - we get excited if we get a watcher!! Lol!"Carpe Diem"

Evening,
Mortgage has gon under £110,000 - woop, woop! Only need to do that another 11 times, and I'm free! It took 13 months for the first 10K, challenge to do another 10K in under 12 (bearing in mind that I have less to play with).
Anyway, another birthday over, and the family gathering went well. Was out at the theatre last night as well, so an early night is on the cards for tonight.
Counted up my savings cats, and I have £40 to bank - that will go into holiday fund. Bad news is that will all of the entertaining on Sunday, did not get to list stuff on ebay. Still, it is all ready for next time, piccies, descriptions etc.
Off to do wii trainer now."Carpe Diem"

Hi all
Feeling a bit rubbish today - having a glass half empty day!
Haven't done anything very MFW today -except girls have gone off to their Dads so I have just had porridge for my dinner.
So, tuna and pasta will be bumped to Friday, and chicken thighs can keep for a dinner next week. Will save a little anyway."Carpe Diem"
