The landlords of the property that Virgo Healthcare occupy are unaware of the company! The landlord is still renting the premises to ABM Mobility even though it has ceased trading and there is a proposal to strike off the company from Companies House register. I have told all this to the landlord in the hope they will get Virgo Healthcare/Nationwide Healthcare evicted.

I have also been in contact with the accountants office where Virgo Healthcare is registered so that they are fully aware of the situation. I have also told Trading Standards of everything I know and, next week, will tell the Insolvency Service too.
  • I think it simply says a lot about the way people feel about the tactics of the company. If I buy something crap from Argos because it was described incorrectly on their site, they refund me, we're all happy.

Hard selling to the elderly however, is totally different. I know plenty of younger adults who fall for hard sell tactics, and as the salesman in the program said "it's like taking a Mars bar from a baby".

If people didn't find what you do totally disgusting, then you wouldn't get all this hassle. Certain jobs require that you protect your personal details to avoid situations like this.

If any of them are honestly in danger, the police will help.

RT shows him teaching staff to charge £1k+ over the price of their products - This is a widespread tactic among hard sell companies and while it's not exactly fair, it's very commonplace and widely known as the done thing (Ever put your house for sale? Most sellers up their price a bit to leave 'bartering room' without cutting into their profits)

Not even comparable because on the whole, because on the whole, people selling their houses are not fleecing vulnerable older citizens for items they do not need or do not meet their requirements at vastly inflated prices.

Or maybe it's the customer who took £15k worth of stuff... Over several visits. A harassed customer would not open the door to the same salesman time and time again, meaning it's highly likely that those £15k worth of products sold themselves (albeit for an inflated price, but since it's mentioned that the customer never even questioned the price, clearly the customer isn't too worried about it)

Not necessarily a harrased customer but certainly one who again is vulnerable and tricked/hoodwinked by someone who's gained their confidence (after all, isn't that what con man is short for?) and has been charged ludicrous amounts of money for tat, quite frankly

It's very boring reading your points about "vigilantilism", so unless you've got some new points maybe you should jog on. Anyway, if people aren't that bothered about fleecing people why on earth would they care about what other people think or do?

So folks, we have got it all wrong. According to Routhy it's Virgo who are the innocent and wronged party. I blame it on all those handicapped pensioners who imprison Virgo's nice sales staff demanding that they sell them as much stuff as they can and at the highest price possible. Until they do, they won't let them out of the house.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

Johnathan Routh must be stirring in his grave, just longing to make fools of his namesakes, in one final episode of Candid Camera.
  • I think routhy needs to grow up !!

this is despicable sales tactics that should have been stamped out long ago. If a consumer says no they mean no you walk away !

you get another family member or friend there. these products are for peoples further enjoyment of life blighted by a condition or age !!
they are not a can of beans they are medical sdevices .

and if your caught selling in this way u should be named to prevent you doing it too someone else. Dont give me the crap about £15,000 being acceptable !

    it is not ethical

Mark Murphy has been fired for what he was shown doing on RT

Virgo is not even close to as bad as RT makes them out to be, and their salespeople and friends and family are paying the price for sensationalist media. Anybody who feels this is just needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

Overpricing happens, this is the world we live in. It is not grounds to stalk, harass and threaten complete strangers. Those who are doing this are far far worse than the people they're chasing after, and they need to realise it and grow up.

Although I don't think Virgo or whatever is a particularly pleasant company, I kind of agree with "Routhy".

It's hard sell. Hard sell, and over-priced. There's nothing really illegal in that. These pensioners have every right to say "no". If they're so vulnerable that they don't know the difference between saying "yes" and saying "no" then they shouldn't be left to deal with thousands of pounds worth of finances.

The guy who purchased 3 separate products; they were all over-priced, stupidly so. But the fact is, he was obviously happy with what he's getting. Price doesn't mean anything - providing that the end-client is happy with what they paid.

I guarantee that most of these complaints come from meddling family visiting their grannies on their annual visit then realising that their inheritance money is being spent on crap.

I don't doubt that older people are more vulnerable to these "traps", but if they don't understand the basics of saying "no" then they should not be living alone.

It's hard-sell done by cocky, arrogant, witless monkeys. I would encourage people to ignore them if they call on you due to their stupid prices. However, encouraging people to Google company director mobile numbers and addresses is just dumb, stupid, and a mob mentality.

No. You're too thick for this.

There's no point trying to get these door-to-door sales companies to change their tactics.

Hound them out all you want. A new one sets up, under a new name, by the same people. Hard selling isn't illegal, and I doubt that it will be any time soon.

If you want change then it's the old people who keep purchasing this over-priced crap that need educating. Some sensationalist headlines and people have been saying that they hope these people catch every disease possible? Over-reaction much all because what...they purchased something they could have got cheaper elsewhere?

If you strip away the whiny emotions from people such as Driver8, the slickly-edited Watchdog, and the arrogant toss-pot salesmen; what are you left with? A company, that hard-sells beds to pensioners.

Get a grip you over-emotional clowns.
