    ;D Hi
Probably the spyware has installed it self in system restore, spyware catchers cant get at it, turn of system restore and the run spybot and anything else you have and it should then be the end of your problem. Remember afterwards to turn on your system restore.

If you had been following the thread,

    I had... honest! :-[
you will have noticed that the OP does not have XP,
Hmm. I started reading a thread. Then thought no that's not correct. Logged on and ended up in this thread.

Sorry, it seems I was in the wrong one :D
but Windows 98 Second Edition (which can have memory problems with certain programs).
So most of your advice is inapplicable.

You were correct. So I modified it. ;) So that it is more applicable to Win9x.

Though the point about Win98 having "memory problems" is often discounted by many MSVP's that I have spoken too. Most argue that the OS itself doesn't have a problem and especially not when it moved to SE. It is often the programs running where the blame lies.
    a2 looks interesting though.

It does. It seems to be an all in one spyware killer.

I have recommended it to a few people of late who have had spyware infestations and they have all reported good results.
It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Another option for you is to give the people on this site the address of the !!!!!! site involved. As chances are there will be a guaranteed uninstaller available from somewhere.

The site address is given above : https://www.trafficswitcher.com.

I don't seem to be getting anywhere using all these other programs as I don't know what I'm doing ... therefore a bad idea to mess around I would think in case I do something terrible!

  • Just thought I would mention the blatently obvious -

    RE-INSTALL WINDOWS!!!

Once these proggies take hold they're an absolute !!!!!! to remove (unless you enjoy editing your registry). Seriosuly though, the amount of time you've spent trying to sort out !!!!!! pop-ups you could have reinstalled the operating system and restored all your work, favorites, applications etc.

On re-booting install a decent firewall (Zone Alarm is free) and install some good Anti Virus software combined with the latest Ad-Aware release.

    Good luck

    Steve
  • Try downloading that Hijackthis program again. No need to resort to reinstalling windows yet. I'm 90% confident it will solve the problem, because it doesnt scan for stuff the same way as adaware et al.

    http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Like I said before, press Scan, Press Save Log, and then copy the contents of that file into the forum. Close the program and then we can assess the situation here.

Btw I dont believe in these RamRelease programs. Stuff is put in the memory for a reason. If you start over-riding the windows management system, it causes the OS to have to get the data from the page file on the harddrive which takes milliseconds rather than nanoseconds - which is a huge difference in pc terms - In the time is takes ur pc to access and retrieve something from the hard-drive, your cpu can easily execute a million instructions. You are effectively forcing the kernel to grab stuff off the hard drive rather than ram. The operating system works most efficiently when the ram is kept full.

    Rant over. =)

Hmmmmm....I think the slowdown when you run out of RAM is far worse than the possibly intangible differences you write of.
The program is not a 'catchall', though I'm sure most people would choose to press a button to prevent their OS from 'crashing' or 'freezing' while they are working, than worrying about a slowdown that is measured in thousandths of a single second.

    MimiJane

EVERYTHING that you do via SpyBot is easily reversible. As simple as placing a tick in or removing a tick from a box.
Also, nothing in ReleaseRam can harm your machine, especially if you select the 'Recommended' settings.

Anyway, I'm becoming concerned that there are 'too many cooks'. So I bow out to the experts.

I'm not sure about copying the results of the program into the forum. I know you all want to help, but is giving details out so publicly of what's on my computer such a good idea? Excuse my ignorance about these matters, but I have to be careful obviously.
