Re !!!!!! site. Can you block it on your security settings?
Try: tools/internet options/security, and name the site to be blocked on the restricted sites area. (This is for Internet Explorer other browsers may have different wording.)Torgwen.....................

That's a good idea Fran. I'll make a note of it's name next time it appears and try this. Can't understand why it keeps appearing though ... you'd think it's some sort of virus but nothing's detecting it.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Hmmmmm...you do seem to have problems. Normally a 'free up' of memory should prevent a lot of the 'freezing' and 'crashing'.
Once you get the program started, what happens when you click on, 'free up RAM now'?
I must admit that I am not the biggest fan of AVG Free Edition, I prefer Avast. Though, I use both as I like the 'boot up' virus check with AVG.
I ran disk defragmentation last night and was delighted to find that Windows was at full speed this morning ... but it didn't last. I clicked on the Word icon a few times and after the third time it slowed right down and then froze on me. Thinking about it, I've noticed this before after deframentation.
As regards installing the ram program, it went through the motions, then froze on me at the end and I had to switch off the machine (which I have to do frequently) as even control, alt and delete won't work ... the egg timer is up for ever!Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Apologies it this is stating the obvious, but have you got Ad-aware etc. updated to the newest versions?
Also, for the uninitiated (i.e. me:)) could you divulge a little about the set-up you're using? (Processor and memory etc.)0 -
Yep, got updated versions of Ad-Aware, AVG, etc. Pentium 3 processor and only using 58% of my memory apparently.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

I worded my original request poorly.
Do you know which Pentium and how much ram your PC has?
If you're not sure you can right-click on 'my computer' and select 'properties'.
Under the General tab it should list (something like),
System
xxx

Hi,
128mb of ram and Pentium III (is this what you want to know?), as stated above.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Yes it is thank you.
The reason for asking is, with the newer applications needing more and more memory to run as standard, I was curious if it could be something as basic as that causing your system to slow down.
If I read correctly you've recently upgraded to broadband?
I know from (bitter) personal experience that the demands of running broadband (with all the normal applications we all have running at the same time) on a PC with that amount of memory (exactly what I used to have) can seriously slow down some machines. As an example, sitting here running broadband with nothing more than my browser open (and sundry utilities like Outlook & ZoneAlarm etc. in the background) is using 275meg of memory.
With regard to the pop-ups, you could add SpywareBlaster to your list. It may not cure the one you get just know but it can easily be configured to block all sorts of nastiness installing itself onto your PC in the first place.0 -
Thanks for the info.
Yes, installed Broadband a week ago ....
I've actually got Spybot installed (similar to Spyblaster?). Trouble is, I'm pretty ignorant about computers and never dare mess about with the settings in case I do something terrible!
Not seen this !!!!!! site for a little while ... think it tends to appear when I download something. Must be a clue there somewhere.
Thanks again.

MimiJane,
Sorry if the names are a little confusing.
I use Spybot more as a cleaner and SpywareBlaster as a blocker.
From memory I don't recall altering Spybot in anyway at all. I did alter some of the settings for SpywareBlaster. After installing it I noticed that the amount of junk that Ad-aware finds dropped considerably.
If you're tempted to download and install, I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Btw, when you run Spybot does it report anything at all? I ask because mine always comes back with a 'DSO exploit' - it's a known security hole in Internet Explorer which, as far as I know, Microsoft has still to rectify.0
