Portsmouth Trading Company Warning!!!

The idea that anyone would countenance discussing their valuables with a complete stranger who knocks on their door out of the blue frankly flabbergasts me.
Presumably someone so concerned about security doesn't wander the streets carrying a wadge of notes, so does he expect people to entrust him with their gold, to take back to his secret lair ?
I have no doubt that the person is very nice and plausible, but you never divulge any information to a person you don't know, unless they carry a warrant card or wear a policeman's uniform.
When I answer the phone, I never confirm my name or telephone number unless or until the caller has identified themselves and I have reason to believe I have business with them. That approach steals the initiative from cold callers and scammers and they know then what their fate will be.Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.0 -
In addition to a NO COLD CALLS sign I now have a sticker on my letterbox which reads: NO COMMERCIAL LITERATURE.
That should stop Portsmouth Trading Company inviting themselves to call at my door.
I also think that a NO COLD CALLS sign is not strong enough, since it leaves open to an interpretation what a COLD CALL is. A better sign would probably read: NO UNINVITED CALLERS0 -
I've been trying to find the ideal wording for a sign - basically our house is too accessible from the main road and I guess inviting, so we get pestered to death at times by these bothersome people who invite themselves onto my proeprty.
I don't want to say No Unsolicited Sales because some of them are local producers (eg home produced honey) that I'm happy to see.
No Sales didn't work on Safestyle UK (spit) - the guy claimed he wasn't a salesman (pshaw!) and I booted him out. It didn't work on Portsmouth Trading either (I'm not selling, I'm buying! he exclaimed...)
No Canvassers or uPVC sales, Witnesses or Catalogues might work...0 -

I have discovered that there did exist, for a short while, a registered company called Portsmouth Trading Company. The registered office of the company was in "The Church Office" of a public house in Portsmouth!!
I KID YOU NOT - A CHURCH OFFICE IN A PUB!
The company was incorporated on 03/08/2004 and struck off the register 02/05/2006. It never submitted any accounts or annual return to Companies House.0 -
A complaint about Portsmouth Trading Company (C. Ash & Sons) has now been submitted to the Advertising Standards Authority.0

Just had a leaflet through the door.
Oh it's from 'Portsmouth trading Co'registered dealer, Southsea.
They are in the East Yorkshire Area. Keyingham Village. around 8.00 to 9.00. It says they will call back later today or tomorrow.
Don't have any issues with it myself.
Haven't anything to sell to them.
Wish I could tell them not to bother. maybe I could put a notice outside the door.
