  • If it is a new poster the fair enough but if it is the company trying to make it look like there are satisified customers then all they have done is bring more attention to themselves for people to judge them

I have had a leaflet posted through my door today in Leyland Lancashire, read this thread and waited for them to call back expecting to be "tucked up".
In fact what happened was I got a very good price for what we regarded as scrap gold, paid cash there and then. I fail to see what has caused the mistrust detailed in this thread.....if you don't like the price they offer you....simple don't sell your gold, it's not rocket science.

HMMM you wouldnt happen to be linked to these people would you?? You have only ever posted one comment!!!
  • please quote the price per gram you were paid...if you are above board this should not be a problem. we do not need to know how much you received.
we are naturally suspicious of first time posters.
  • I understand your slight mistrust in a first time poster "praising" what on the face of it is a very dodgy company. I think the point I am trying to make is that we had a percieved value for a 20+ year old 9 ct gold engagement ring (stone recently re set into a new 18 ct ring). I agree wholly with the previous posters relating to the address and mobile number being very weak in terms of traceability.
If I can be candid we had never thought of selling the ring as it really was a tatty mess claws missing etc and had little or no percieved value. At the very best I thought if we got £40 I would sell, when he offered £60 it felt like a good deal. I had not had the ring valued previously and did not know its weight. The valuation / offer was made without scales....it was simply "I'll give you £60 for it". If you have had gold weighed and valued elsewhere it is simply upto you wether you accept an offer. I took the opportunity to point out to he guy that there is a thread which quite rightly was mistrusting / dubious of him.
One further point prior to him calling back I contacted Consumer Direct as who in turn contacted Trading Standards, I recieved a call from Trading Standards who stated that they had knowledge of Portsmouth Trading Company but had not recieved substanciated complaints. I accept that I may have been naive accepting an unsustanciated offer but surely if an item is valued for more than you expect and you personally are happy with the offer it is a "Good Deal"
Not sure how I can convince you that I am not connected in anyway other than to say that I have posted many times on Martins forum and recieved lots of support and advice when going through my IVA and ultimately personal bankruptcy aroud 4 years ago, I have changed e mail addresses and pretty much every personal detail in the meantime in order to distance myself from Debt Management Companies....anyone who has been through IVA etc will understand the need for distance and change.

To all people who have commented on this link.

My name is Kathrine Coleman (maiden name 'ASH') and yes C Ash & Sons are genuine dealers across the UK. My families work activity covers the Country due to the fact that C Ash (my grandfather) has 6 Sons. These 6 sons live in various locations across England. There seems to be many people on here with far too much time on their hands.

Home addresses are not used on their leaflets purely due to security reasons. ie: money / gold on premises = target for theft.

Whilst people on here have so much time to research my families name: try looking up the mobile number: 07860 662994 - You will discover this number has been on contract and paid for by (Mr Ash) for well over 15 years, and registered to a Portsmouth Address.

Further to Placeboman2122s comment: 'if you don't like the price they offer you....simple don't sell your gold, it's not rocket science' I totally agree.

Whilst their careers may not be politically correct in the eyes of pen pusher, modern day snobs.... One thing I can say about my family is that they are hard working, genuine, trustworthy men. Whilst you are posting comments on here, please take a few moments to think about what damage you cause by typing derogative unfound information. These men have not started 'knocking doors' since the 'gold boom' - This has been there work all their lives - buying and selling old furniture and scrap metal. Would you prefere them to be sitting at home on there PCs all day, scrounging state benfits??????

    Thank you for your time

Googlewhacker - I have nothing to hide in terms of my location. I'm am registered on the electrol roll - therefore feel that these people would only moan if no location was added. Please also note that I have been registered to this site since 2009. Thank you for your time.

I would echo what googlewhacker says, and suggest you delete your address. People reading this thread may think you have gold at your premises or, at the very least, visit your home with the intention of finding the location of any gold.

I would add that I started this thread out of a genuine concern. In my experience, genuine businesses do not use addresses they have had no connection with in 15 years; if you want to hide a real address for security reasons, get a PO box number or a mail-drop address.

When someone from the company demands my address, whilst refusing to provide his own, so he 'can sort me out' I have every right to report the matter to the Police, Trading Standards and to warn others of potentially corrupt business practices.

Paul - I am not going to start childish arguments across the internet - I have voiced fact regarding my families running of their business. I will of course pass your comments on regarding a PO Box. Furthermore, I am happy to leave my address on here - my home is secure and I also have a phone to report people to the police.

Thanks you and have a good day. Kathrine

I will re-iterate what I said earlier, genuine businesses do NOT use addresses they no longer have any association with.

If Mr. Ash had genuine concerns over security - property being raided by thieves - why would he want to put another person in danger of that by using someone else's postal address?

Mr. Ash does not have permission to use that postal address and he has not sought permission from the current occupiers of the property to use that address. In my mind, that makes Portsmouth Trading Company a highly questionable business.
