Portsmouth Trading Company Warning!!!

I received a leaflet through my letterbox today from this company. The offer cash for gold, silver, old coins, watches, medals etc.
I cheked out the address on their leaflet (Albert Road, Suthsea) and found they did occupy those premises there for a few months around 15 years ago!
As I live some 300 miles from Southsea I was also puzzled why they claimed to be a family firm. They only have a mobile number (07877 xxxxxx).
I called the number and was told to call his dad on another number. Upon calling the number the person who answered said that they were 'old' leaflets and they would be changing the address. He then contradicted himself saying that they still had permission to use the Southsea address! Of course I contacted the occupiers of the Southsea address who tell me that there is no such permission!
If you receive a notice through your door from PORTSMOUTH TRADING COMPANY, please report to Consumer Direct on 08454 040506, and your local Police Station.
The apparent owner are called C. Ash & Sons who claim to be 'registered dealers'. They are currently operating around North Lincolnshire and Nort East Lincolnshire. They refuse to provide address details over the phone but demanded my address so they 'could sort me out'.

C.ash & sons? that cannot be a real name when they are paying cash for money
ah well. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

I recieved a leaflet from these and I live in Neath, so they are doing it around the country. The reason why I looked twice at the address is because I used to live in Portsmouth. BEWARE0

Ash does appear to be their genuine surname! That is the name on the leaflet and the name they used used when renting premises some 15 years ago. However, when I spoke to one of the 'sons' he claimed his name was 'Johnathan Spector'. His father is also supposedly called 'Johnathan'.
The leaflet also indicates that it has been a family-run business since 1948 though there is no information on the internet about them.0 -
I am going to Albert Road this afternoon. Will have a looksee0

I received an 'urgent' phone call from Trading Standards today. They wanted me to contact them immediately these people arrive on my doorstep!
Trading Standards said they had been in communication with Portsmouth Trading Standars and emails had been flying between the two Trading Standards officesd. Clearly, they have some genuine concerns!
They want to check theat the business is uising calibrated weighing equipment and that they are properly registered as a business.
So, if these people call at you door, note down the car registration number and contact your local Trading Standards immediately0 -
I got another leaflet from these a few days ago. They are still using an Albert Road, Southsea address (where they have not resided for about 15 years).
The leaflet still only has a mobile phone number, although the number has changed to: 07860 662994.
I have reported the matter again to the local Police and to Trading Standards. I would suggest anyone else receivbing a similar leaflet, does the same.0 -
I have had a leaflet posted through my door today in Leyland Lancashire, read this thread and waited for them to call back expecting to be "tucked up".
In fact what happened was I got a very good price for what we regarded as scrap gold, paid cash there and then. I fail to see what has caused the mistrust detailed in this thread.....if you don't like the price they offer you....simple don't sell your gold, it's not rocket science.0 -

Why would a genuine dealer use a false address?0
