Safety inspection - 6 hours braket ??
Comments

Easy arguement, "there was a smell of gas"
Prove there wasn't.
I never said for refusing the appointment.
I did say how messy do you want to get.0 -
I understand that it has to be done.
I just wanted to know if I am in my right to ask them to schedule it am or pm.
So, I will call them and tell them that an inspection is nor an emergency, and they cannot enter if I am not in, so if they want not to have to reschedule for another day or whaever they should give me a more precise time.
I understand that it may take time, but a 6 hour interval it's ridiculous. They should know where they are starting, if I am in the middle of the day or at the end...
By the state that everything in my flat (and how they handled repairs untill now) is they just want to tick a box that they have done it, not seriously do it....
After seeing the angency's "handyman" and other people they work with I don't trust them to enter my place, get in all the rooms they want and do whatever.
Thanks everyone.0 -
if anyone comes into your home to check your gas installation.. simply ask to see their GASSAFE certifcation/ID - a genuiine engineer will have no problem at all showing you this
""The trick that works for me is to ask for the first appointment of the morning or the first after lunch. ""
Frankleee - this is not about trickery it is about negotiation - about common sense comparing diaires' convenience... its about professional discussion.... about saving tenants' lives...
not about trickery .......0 -

Blimey  this time can only assume you didn't read all my post.0 -
You certainly don't want to have to wait around all day and have to take a whole day off work. I don't think it is at all unreasonable to ask for a specific time for the appointment.
Our letting agency does this, and I thought it would have been standard procedure. Also if their suggested time is inconvenient, we can always change it. I think they probably have someone going round doing a schedule of gas inspections for our agents properties over a few days - so wouldn't be getting drawn into doing more complex jobs over that time period, hence they can stick to the appointment times given.
Whilst gas inspections are obviously vital, I would also be very uneasy with someone letting themselves in while I was out.
You need to tell them its not on!0 -

As well as offering stupid and illegal advice you also don't understand how the criminal charge of T harrassment works. So in the interests of making sure that no one takes your rediculous post even vaguely seriously here is how even your crummy "defence" is wrong.
If a T alleges harrassment then it is the LL will have to prove their actions were reasonable. Therefore no one has to prove that there was no gas leak, they merely have to allege it. The LL would then have to prove that there was such a danger (eg with an engineers report). Courts have heard this excuse from criminal shysters a thousand times and never fall for it.
OP - I agree that a 6 hour window is too large so I suggest, if you want to be there, that you explain this to the agent and ask them to give you a scheduled time.0 -

If T alleges harassment and manages to get a criminal prosecution over one entry over one alleged gas leak, I'll respect your "crummy" advice.
The op asked if they could ask for a firm appointment, not a 6 hour window.
They then get the usual answers of
“don’t let them in, change the locks, report the landlord for harassment”
Live in the real world, let landlords and tenants get on, stop advocating causing trouble where it's not required.
Clutton's advice is good, you don't need to be an antagonistic extreme tenant, mutual respect is required, it’s a business relationship, not a power struggle.0 -
A wooly 6 hr slot is unfair imo.
If you can't be there then ask someone to be. Although I'd not be happy with unknown workmen going in and out of my property on their own at all, some people are.
The check is important - agreed.0 -
""it’s a business relationship, not a power struggle""
this sums up this part of MSE perfectly......0
