I am entering a joint DMP with my wife. My question is can a card creditor soley in my name take money from an associated bank account in joint names. Can I have a number and any of that wine that is knocking around

Yes:( unfortunately it happened to a friend of mine

Hello dadooronronrondadooronron - some good advice for you from ex-rayday. But how long does it take you to log in with a 'monica' like that? :) Welcome to the madhouse!

goingforward - Hope things continue to progress for you and your family.

My own cardiac appointment has been quickly brought forward, because of the severity of my symptoms and my (relatively :D) young age. Must admit to feeling very frightened. I've been so well since my heart attack at an early age. I am slim, and manage to eat well and healthily on a very restricted budget. I look at obese, beer-swilling, smoking, pie and chips folk and think - why me? (Sorry - having a bit of a selfish 'down' rant now :o)

Thanks all for listening. It's wonderful to have a 'safe haven' to let your worries hang out - be they financial or otherwise.

Got to go now before I start sobbing and using default notice to blow my nose on :rotfl:

Happy weekend to all and may our debts be re-paid sooner than later!

    'Twitty'

Good luck with your appointment i hope you get sorted out asap.. My dad is going to have a full body MRI in the hope of getting to the bottom of his problems.

What great advice you all manage even when in a wee wine glass!!! I'm very impressed.!!!

Co-op Cashminder are pretty fast at setting up and as someone said you can use any Post Office to put in money(cash, cheques) and get it out again (machines or counter). Very nice lady set ours up in about 4 days, she did ask if we had "financial problems" but we were honest and the account came through fine. No overdraft or chequebook but a very nice visadebit and they've got great easy to use online banking.

Twitty, hope your appointment goes OK, take care

Defaults, I am awaiting the last couple we're due to finish wallpapering the downstairs loo, actually I should have perhaps used them somewhere else in the loo DF, never thought of that......

At this stage knowledge is power, read everything, it will decrease your anxiety and increase your awareness of what creditors can and can't do(not that much actually), invaluable when dealing with them.

    Take care all

Thanks everyone for answering my post yesterday about the house. We were advised that as long as we keep the mortgage going we will be fine but its nice to hear from other people who are either been through it all or are going through it as well. As long as the kids are ok, we've got a home and the priority bills are paid i'm happy. Talking to OH earlier about everything and iv'e told him its not as easy as going on a dmp and paying it for a set number of years then everything will be ok. Ive told him (after through reading all the advide on this board) we'll be getting loads of phone call, demanding letters, default notices, probably ccj's. Ive told him his credit will be shot for years (though that definatly not a bad thing lol).

New co op accounts being set up tomorrow, sending out the dmp letters with token payments tomorrow as well, dmp telephone interview tues then told oh to brace ourselves for the inevitable phone calls, ivr told him not to discuss anything over the phone and to advise whoever calls we will only deal with them in writing, cant think of anything else at the moment but theres bound to be other stuff to do xx

  • p-pincher we set up a DMP with 22 creditors, got 4 phone calls and none were nasty, a bit thick and reading from a script yes, but no nasties. Nasty phone calls tend to be from DCAs and they tend to be aggressive cos they are dealing with "hardened debtors" ie those who have missed quite a few payments and are perhaps a little more savvy. So don't worry too much about phonecalls, there is a lot of propaganda put about to scare you into paying, and remember, if you ain't got it, they can't have it!!!

    ;)

That was my lightbulb moment - thinking oh dear need to sort this all out for my children - definitely better than juggling bills and seeing no way out - yes it can be tough (don't speak to me about Nationwide:eek:) and I think you learn to live with it (in a good way) as these creditors can change the tune at any moment...but - living to a budget and paying for things with the "actually its paid for and not borrowed" is a good feeling - I am on the long haul until June 2015 (if all goes well) but looking to the date when its all behind me - not much more time really than a loan term for me :)

Good luck and stick at it;)
  • Good luck Twitty at the hospital, these cardiologists can do amazing things these days, I talk from experience having both of my parents lives saved by them ;)

Ppincher and other DMP newbies - my experience similar to pure dead dopey. 18 creditors and only 3/4 phone calls at the very beginning. None was nasty and as soon as I mentioned CCCS and DMP they were fine.

Had a few letters saying they may take further action etc etc but nothing else happened - its just their lovely scare tactics. Started my DMP last December and all apart from 1 have frozen or greatly reduced interest and no phone calls at all now.

    Good luck to everyone. :)
