    Hello everyone

Well I made my first payment to CCCS today at the PO and also phoned them to sort out paying by DD.

I am now officially in my DMP!!! :j

1 down - 119 payments to go ( though I am hoping this will be seriously slashed once my car HP has ended in four years time)

To anyone considering a DMP I can honestly say I was kicking and screaming against any type of help like this, I was determined to sort it out myself - only I began to sink.

I am so glad I did take the plunge as it is such a relief to feel as though things are finally under control.

I might not have much money, but at least I don't have the strees any more.

PS can I have a number please?

My worry is that they will try to up the insurance premium because we may be a risk??

    MrsGibbs

Insurance is not credit checked it is done more on a pay as you go basis. If you don't pay then they will cancel the insurance. Simple as that.

Thankyou... re my dad he has been a diabetic for 53 years now and its taken his toll one his body.. his 1st 2 heart attacks were 3 yrs apart, then he had 3 last year in the 6 weeks he was in hospital 2 prior to the coma and 1 the day he was due to be discharged, then another one about 4 mths ago. We know he is on borrowed time and i remember last Aug saying everything he went thru would be worth it for another yr with him, but now that yrs nearly up.

I think i will ring the CCCS tomorrow and explain about the car and see about starting on the 1st Oct. If we dont have a car my oh cant travel to and from work so then the creditors will get nothing.

OMG my heart bleeds for you and your family.
You must be feeling so much stress now. Not sleeping, eating etc, etc???
Keep hold - it will get better. These first few weeks are the absolute pits.
You will become stronger and more informed if you stick with us on this thread, and the DMP will seem easier.
If you need to sound off about your Dad send me a private message. I have been there myself and have some understanding.

Hi everyone (hope you don't mind but I have just copy/pasted my intro from the DFW Long Haulers so you know who I am and I've PM'd ianmak for a number for this thread)

We are here to get out of debt in the quickest time and in the best way we can for our small family (for quick read less years than we are currently headed for LOL). I'd like to come here to support others and be supported ourselves. You can't do it by yourself - well and stay sane at the same time LOL I have been reading and lurking and occasionally posting for a couple of weeks now and there are some incredible people who are so generous with their time, knowledge and effort to help others.

We are just about to make our first payment for our DMP to CCCS on August 1st and still haggling with creditors etc. We do everything in writing and DH has become as obsessed as me in filing everything in a place we can find it, with dates received and copies of letters we send etc. No real problems just yet and we have never been behind with priority bills etc including our mortgage. The unsecured debt we have only just had problems with but we are getting it all sorted out now.

DH works and I receive carers allowance for my special girly so I'm home full time with her as I educate her at home. We initially did our SOA online with CCCS to get some advice and what was returned to us in advice seems reasonable. Then a friend told me that DLA (for my DD) should be included in the total income but then taken off for her needs. I rang to ask CCCS if this was true and they did confirm this and said the online system isn't set up at the moment to take this into consideration. However, if we did do that the amount received would take our ability to pay anything into the deep red! So we will continue with our budget as started. The CCCS people were so helpful and kind and he did say that if any costs occur for DD that are not in our budget to ring them and we could claw it back on the months we needed to do that. We do have other ways we are going to raise some money so we should be able to meet some of the shortfall we need for various things not included in the budge but essential to her education and health needs. We just want to pay our debts so we are all in it together.

So far we have changed our land line/internet/home insurance and made £35 difference and still have a couple of insurances to go. I cook everything from scratch and the food bill has gone down enormously from a couple of years ago (and more recently). Slow cooker essential! We have grown our own salad stuff this summer and herbs and these help to make everything really tasty. We eat well, just less of the more expensive stuff like meat and buy it from a great butchers that actually works out less than Tesco. Thinking about getting chickens but got to save up for a little home for them!

Hope that wasn't too long - just wanted to introduce myself. Looking forward to being here for a while.....

Update on starting up the DMP:

    Action taken today.

    1. I phoned the CCCS and told them I had a 'demanding extra money'
phone call from egg card and that I had made a token payment (of £1).
The CCCS person advised I cancel the DD to egg card and send in the
completed forms and documents to CCCS.

    2. Have moved employer salary payment to alternative current account
with no association to the insitiuitons I owe money to. Tested alternative
current account debit card + pin and it works in cash machine (to check the balance of £3).
Tested transfer of small amount of cash from old current account to new one and it works.

    3. Filled in detials on tempate letters to creditors, made photocopies, found
the correct addresses to send these letters to.

    Action for Tuesday 27 july:
    1. send completed forms and documents to CCCS
    2. cancel DDs and standing orders on old bank acct
    3. set up new DDs for priority bills and CCCS debt repayment
    on new current account.
    4. transfer cash from old current acct to new current account

    Action for Wednesday 28 July:
Send the completed template letters by registered post from the post office to creditors informing them that I'm in financial difficulty and the CCCS are assisiting me with finding a solution (i.e. DMP) etc etc.

I'm feeling a bit stressed. But not panicking like before.

    For info:
Total debt (all unsecured): £13,500 and currently rising due to interest and charges.
Total net income £1,300 per month

    SOA already posted.

    Thank you.

P.S. As others have mentioned, I have not signed the letters to the creditors but have printed my name in block capitals after the 'Yours faithfully'

Yesterday we had an odd letter from one of our creditors - it's not for that much money compared to the main ones. We had sent all of the creditors the usual template letter that CCCS supplied and we also included a letter of our own explaining financial difficulties etc etc. The letter we got yesterday was only one line long and it said that everything had halted because our account was in dispute! We haven't said our account is in dispute at all. Told them we would pay our debts back as soon as we can and that we were doing this through CCCS etc. When I rang CCCS to tell them about this they said they wondered whether they had sent us the wrong letter out LOL It will be interesting to see what letter we get from them next LOL

Hi there, i was just wondering if anyone could clarify a few points about DMP's for me, I have been through the CCCS online questionnaire which suggests a DMP but i dont fully understand the implications. Does anyone know the answer to the following...
1.Firstly, all of my debts are on credit cards these are with MBNA, Halifax, Tesco, Lloyds, Egg, and Barclaycard. How likely is it that they will actually freeze the interest? If you do begin to arrange a DMP and the companies won't freeze the interest is there a way to back out of the arrangement?
2.Also what impact does the whole thing have on your credit rating?
    3. I've seen lots of advice about opening a different bank account, is this neccessary if you don't have any debt with the bank you hold your current account with? i've read someone saying their bank account was frozen while their dmp was set up?? surely thats not helpful.
    4. will a dmp have any impact on my mortgage? (it's all paid up to date and never missed a payment or anything.

    any help would be appreciated.
