I'm with you on this one SAAC. Don't worry too much about the interest Devon Guy, there are letters you can write, phone calls to be made asking them to reduce the interest and eventually most will, usually some months down the line. I had 14 creditors and within a few months most had stopped charging, but my debt is going down overall cos the ones that haven't stopped charges are less than the ones that have. Halifax have reduced charges but not stopped them altogether. MBNA who were a real pain when I started to have difficulties in meeting my payments before I went on the DMP were one of the first creditors to stop all interest and charges.

Hi all I'm a newbie, hope u don't mind, I found this forum a few weeks ago and it's actually given me confidence to sort out my debt problems, it's been gradually spiralling out of control and now I can't make my min payments anymore, so I've decided to start my own DMP. My offer letters are wrote and are being sent on mon morning, actually feel in control, which is the first time in a long time. So wish me luck and hope they all reply with good news, well it is Christmas (nearly).

Hi I'm a bit confused, I was going to do my own DMP but after alot of reading, I'm looking into going with cccs, I've filled in the contact me form and now waiting to hear from them but when I did my SOA I didn't include any of my husbands income because all the debts are in my name, I also haven't included any of my husbands expenditure, such as his hp agreement and his car costs, is this ok? Also will Cccs want to see my bank statements or just my proof of income and creditors statements?

Going with CCCS or PayPlan will certainly take some of the pressure off you at the beginning.

As far as I'm aware, if it's only your debt, then you only include your wage and expenses. Obv this will be difficult because I guess joint expenses should be split down the middle?

  • Hi everyone. I've been lurking on MSE for a while and during this time my financial difficulties have become worse to the point where I have now set up a DMP with CCCS. I have six creditors and owe nearly £36,000. I wrote to all my creditors at the end of last week to give them my CCCS reference number and to let them know CCCS will be getting in touch. My DMP will begin 1st January 2012 and I'll be paying £749 per month to CCCS. I'm both excited to be doing something about my debt problem but terrified at the same time, as I'm hopeless at budgetting, which is how I got into this position in the first place. I guess I will have to hang around the boards to pick up some good tips.

ps. Can you give me a number, please. Thanks.

    Dawn :)

Hi everyone, what is the number thing? Think I'm being a bit thick but i have no clue. Anyway I was up until half 2 this morning typing creditor letters and I had my cccs forms emailed to me, have applied for a new bank account so just have to wait and see how that goes, as from tomorrow I have missed this months payment with most of my creditors so let the letters begin, oh and I stupidly rounded down my income to the nearest 10 pounds when filling out my debt remedy so have had to email them cause I've actually got another 20 quid for my debts so just waiting to hear back from them, so quite a productive day overall.

The number thing is something that was setup eons ago. It's a way of feeling that you're part of the gang I guess!

I've sort of taken over the issuing of them, which I'm happy to do. I only ask that if I sort one out for anyone, that they stick around for a while, ask questions, loiter, or give advice if they can in return.
