    Hiya and welcome,

Sounds good in theory, but till you're up and running it maybe worth sticking to that basic wage, and putting the extra away for emergencies, then make the odd overpayment if you have it available, say once every six months or so, rather than at irregular times.

    Just my opinion though!

Thanks ianmak, it does sound more sensible.

So I can do that then? Keep any bonus I get and then pay every six months to get the debt down?
Just worried that it looks like I earn more than I do as last couple of months have been good for me.
Though this months will be a lot less :(
    DMP with Payplan started 01/07/11
    Starting debt £28,645

    Current estimated DFD 01/11/2019
But I will get it over with sooner!!

Having a bad time recently. With split up of partner due to my debts and other contributing factors feel like im going of the rails here.
As i have been paying all the bills etc and OH been paying for shopping and spending money cant afford to go out at all now. OH still lives in property and wants it sold and have just found out my payment to CCCS was not taken out this month as i didnt have enough in the bank to cover it I had increased it and the TV licence quarterly payment came out too. Feel like im sinking, got my panic attacks back to.:(

Please don't get down. Speak to CCCS if you need to, these things happen at the start, espesh in your position, but they will begin to settle once you get used to your budget.

It helps with me that EVERYTHING with regards bills comes out monthly. I can't cope any other way!

  • Hello...

I have been lurking for a couple of days and feel I must come on and thank you all for being an inspiration. I have been on a DMP for almost 2 years and I had started to slip a little bit in terms of my budget etc.

I hate that out of control feeling and was finding myself worrying about bank balance again which I haven't done since on the DMP as everything was totally budgeted and 'spreadsheeted' until recently.

Anyway 'long story short' and all of that, after reading the whole thread over the last week or so, I have given myself a shake, and sat down for a few hours & re wrote my budget and I feel in control again, its almost like that initial weight off your shoulders feeling all over again!!

I also decided to call all of our creditors for an upto date balance, it turns out one of our main creditors had for some reason forgotten to remove the interest 'ticker' on our account even though they had agreed to remove the interest. They have been getting a £22 payment and charging £54 interest! So they have now removed it and refunded the charges to the account! Result! If I hadn't called them it would never have been picked up!!

So I know exactly where I am now, both in terms of budget and also debt balance, and yes its going to be a long road but I am once again prepared and actually feel optimistic!!

I have paid off 10% of my debts in the last 2 years and I hadn't been looking at it like that, it was always about that far far in the distance DFD, but I think that 10% totally of the balance and not on fees and interest (all 11 creditors have now removed these) is a real achievement and I am now feeling really upbeat about it all. I probably would have still just been paying charges now and not touching the balance (infact it the balance probably would have been increasing!) if it wasn't for getting in touch with the CCCS

I am so pleased that I swallowed my pride and accepted help rather than burying my head in the sand to the mess we were in (due to redundancy- both my DH and I) If anybody is lurking, please call CCCS/Paypal you'll never look back!

    :j Thanks again!!! :T

last saturday bought myself a money jar which counts the pennies as they go in. Started saving all the coppers and 5 and 10ps that normally end up down the sofa and have accumalated £12 in the jar, Just think before these small coins just disappeared. Highly recommend anyone to get one of these jars £2.99 thats all. Great way of saving

Ebay sales today have reached £25 and still 7 hours to go....:j
will package and post these tonight then set about finding more clutter i dont need.

Good job Bones! I too have got one of those Terranandi jars and am putting away pound coins hoping to build a nice little fund. Also, have listed a lot on Ebay this weekend and hoping they will all get bid. :T

    Hi All,
Remember that windy day when BO was visiting and Prince Charles's comb over was in disarray? Well that was the day our telegraph pole blew down and have been without the internet or phone ever since, and BT reckon it won't be fixed until the end of this week! One advantage though - no creditors calling, but unable to get on line to sort out the bank accounts. Plus hubbies useless work paid his wage into the old bank account which caused a bit of a problem. I wanted to notify the old bank that the over draft is going to be included on my DMP but have had to put this off in case they decided to keep all our wages.

Anyway these things are sent to try us and I am getting my DMP underway. It won't be pretty but thanks to all the useful advice I have read here I am feeling positive and know what to expect.

So thanks guys, will keep you posted.
