Yes I do..... in my case it took 3-4 months...debt passed on to their inhouse collection dept...with interest frozen...did not say for how long...

Thanks for that, really good to know, the interest and charges that they charged me this month were more than double my payments so fingers crossed!:D

  • Good evening!:j

I haven't posted on here for a long long time, however I 'check in' regularly to see how everyone's getting on with their DMP journey.

For those of you that don't 'know' me, I first posted on this thread in January 2009 when I thought my world was ending, we were drowning in debt! We had never missed a payment but we were struggling with robbing peter to pay paul. I couldn't sleep and knew we we had to do something. I contacted CCCS and had the option of BR or a low start DMP. I was so embarrased about the amount of money we owed (in fact to this day I don't think I've ever admitted the amount on here!:o) and as we really couldn't face the thought of BR we opted for the DMP route with a DFD of a miilion years away!

After we had first committed to the DMP the feelings were immense! My head was spinning.....I couldn't stop crying, I worried non stop at the start especially about baliffs knocking on the door and charging orders, I was so scared that I was making a huge mistake for the family.....how wrong I was! We are now over 2 years into our DMP and I have to be honest that until now (I'll explain in a bit) I very rarely think about our debt. We don't have a lavish life (anymore) but we get by and even have the odd treat here and there!;). The one thing I learned very early on was not to set my CCCS budget too tight.....We are long time DMP'ers and I realised that we needed to be realistic with our budget for it to be able to work...and so far it has! We had the odd nasty phonecall to start with, but I don't think we have rec'd a call in over 18 months. We get regular statements from our 9 creditors and all but 1 has stopped all interest and charges.

If you're new to all this lark and thinking of a DMP, I know the worries you have I know all about the things that will be buzzing around in your head, I know how scared you are and I know that you feel that you have a 101 questions that you need answered, I know that the feeling of taking this step can be petrifying, but trust me you can do this!!!!! and after a while you too will probably agree that the DMP was possibly one of the best decisions you ever made!

Don't ever underestimate the power of the support that you receive from the people on this thread....the regular posters that give up their time to support us and give us the answers to our questions are amazing! I feel like a little bit of an intruder on this thread as although I often check in and read eveyone' s posts, I don't take the time to reply and support as so many of you do. If it hadn't been for the likes of these wonderful people in Jan 2009 I don't think I'd be where I am today so...THANK YOU!!:T:T:T:T

Going back to the beginning of my post (sorry so long!.. that's what happens when you don't make the effort to post regulary :o), I was wondering if any of the long time DMP'ers had ever missed a month's CCCS payment?.... and if so what happened?......I am hoping to miss this month's payment (car trouble) but am concerned that it will 'rock the boat' and will cause my creditors to start adding on charges and interest etc......can anyone help with this please?

Anyway, thank you for having me on your wonderful thread, keep up the good work guys .
    Take care

    Hi SG!
I don't see why CCCS wouldn't accept the account overview....all they really need to see is the balance of the account so that should be fine;).
    Good luck

Have to say I've been on a downer today with regards my debt for the first time in almost 3 years of being on my DMP. Of course my footie team losing, and having to go back to work after 10 days off doesn't help, but hey ho, we've just got to get on with it!

Thankyou for your wonderful post :T
I also am on a low start DMP, with a DFD far into the future. :(
Nevertheless I too am glad to be doing it this way. Paying it back slowly but surely :)
I am sure one missed payment will not rock the boat if you take care to inform creditors. Why not phone and explain to CCCS? I would also write or phone to each creditor, letting them know this is just a blip and you will still be honouring your debt in the long term.

Go get a beer, then sit in a corner repeating this mantra 'I am doing the right thing,I have control of my finances, one day I will be debt free'
PS - As a :female: I know there is more to life than just :footie: (yes, really :D)
And how come you've had 10 days off when some of us have been slaving away?
Hope you feel brighter and perk up soon. (How can I insult a man when he's down? ;))

  • Hi there - it's been a long time since I said hello- although I'm always lurking and wishing everyone good luck on their DMP journeys - hope you have all had a fab Easter with too much chocolate, wine and general merry making in the sun! My DMP is all going to plan - 18 months down, 16 months to go - getting there slowly slowly....but more than half paid off now - yayayayay :j

I finally plucked up the courage to tell my fiancee about my DMP. He was really shocked (he is of the "neither a borrower nor a lender" school - only wish I had met him years ago before I got into this mess!) but has been amazing! Is v proud of me for having the guts to sort it out - and can't quite believe I have managed to keep this hidden from him for so long (have been on DMP 18 months now) - has made him worry what else I have hidden from him (:rotfl:I told him to watch out for the bodies of ex boyfriends in the loft). Overall though he was upset that I hadn't told him sooner as he thinks he could have helped (have tried to explain that I wanted to sort it out myself and not involve anyone else) but understands that it's a tough thing to bring up with someone - especially someone like him who really doesn't understand how anyone can get into debt in the first place. Overall though he has been fantastic and so supportive - and it's made him realise why I am so ridiculous about cutting out vouchers etc. He's promised to help me (not with money - I don't want him to help in any way this is my mess to fix) with making sure we plan meals better, use vouchers, nights in instead of nights out etc. I can't believe it has taken me so long to tell him and WHAT A RELIEF it's all out in the open!!

One question I have is about joint accounts...we don't have any joint finances as the moment - and I don't want one until I have sorted and finished my DMP, but he wants to add me to his car insurance and also his company private health insurance plan (both of which will save me a few ££) - does anyone know if this would link us financially in any way. I know my credit is shot to pieces for ever more but I don't want to mess with his in any way.

    Any advice gratefully received.

Hope you're all well and looking forward to (hopefully) another sunny bank holiday!!

    Fraggle x

    Hi Fraggle

Well done for bringing it all to the fore. No more worries about it jumping out when you don't expect it. With things that you 'pay as go' by DD like insurances and utilities the DMP doesn't affect it as they don't do the same sort of credit searches or linkages. I would take some advice from both your DMP providor and Debtline re future implication for your new hubby though. Better to do it now than try to correct it if something does happen. Have you considered posting on the ask an advisor thread, especially as the answer will be of interest to many others.

    Good luck

    Hey all :hello:

My name's Lou and I've recently contacted CCCS to start on a DMP. Filled in my paperwork and the direct debit mandate today, posting it all off tomorrow.

I'm nearly £6000 in debt and it's been really worrying me. I've been awake at 5am most mornings worrying, leaving me shattered the rest of the day. Plus the sick feeling in my tummy from worrying is driving me nuts! After much deliberation, I decided to go for the DMP.

Thought I would post here to introduce myself, would love to be a regular contributor to this thread :o feeling so much more positive just from getting all my paperwork in order and for getting things sorted!

    Ladybird x

    Welcome onboard.

Holpe you have a smooth set up.

That's a massive achievement to get Hellifax onboard, well done! No, many don't communicate!
