Hi everyone, I have only got up to page 25 so far and I know that there are lots of knowledgeable people on here so i'm hoping that someone can help :)

Hubby and I are in the process of setting up a DMP with CCCS and have 14 creditors with £39k debt between us. I've cancelled all direct debits and we have new accounts with banks not related to debts.

I'm a little bit confused now - sorry if I sound a bit stupid. My last pay to go into Halifax will be on 25th Feb and our mortgage is due to come out on the 1st March from the same account. All our payments with Halifax are up to date at the moment - but if I post my letters to CCCS and Halifax tomorrow will the account be frozen straight away? Or will they wait until we miss the payments to freeze our account? Just not sure whether to wait until next week to post or do it straight away as we are eager to get everything in order before baby number 1 is due next month.

For the letters to creditors... do I need to write why we are experiencing financial difficulties or just send the standard one from CCCS? I've read somewhere on here that you can sign the letters but then put wavy lines through it - is that recommended?

    Many thanks

Congratulations on your pregnancy, that's the most important thing.

Even though you are upto date with payments as soon as Hellifax get a sniff that you are entering a DMP they could snaffle funds from your account and pay whichever of their debts they see fit. I assume it's too late to divert your wages to the new account and not worth risking that incase plan goes to pot and it goes astray. It can be done in a super short space of time, I did, but was very stressful and I insisted in everything in writting from work so I had a fall back position. My advice is get paid. Go withdraw ASAP, (you may have to do on a number of transactions on a number of days by cash machine if you have limites imposed.) I'd withdraw it to zero balance. Then I'd send letters off and pay the mortgage via the new account (balance transfer not cheque) or send a postal order.

I used a PRINTED new signature on any comms with the creditors. The reason people say don't 'sign' is so the unscrupulous creditors don't 'copy' your signature to impose on agreements. This is only important if you choose to go down a UE route. I probably will not use this route but preferred to keep my options open as we do not know what the future holds.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi HH
    Just cross-posted with you!
You sound remarkably cheery these days - thanks for all your recent helpful posts and where do you keep your secret stack of fivers? :rotfl:

    'Twitty'

    Hi Twitty, no worries!

Am feeling generally more up, especially compared to the complete wreck I was this time last year and I couldn't have got through it had it not been for all the lovely people here. I'm with you and Ian on this that it's sorta the right thing to do to stick around and support others, not just take! :money:

Hope you are having a good Sunday. Believe me the week before payday there's no secret fiver. Still, it's quite good fun emptying the cupboards, being on a DMP is most definately improving my culinary skills!:j:j

    Thanks for the congrats :)

I'll post the forms off once Friday afternoon once i've drawn my money out. Can I just ask, how do I send a £1 token offer to pay my o/d? For the CC's I have the payment slips so can I use those?

Hi there and welcome to the thread :)

I would think the payment slips for the CCs will be ok, for the rest it is easiest to get postal orders.

Lol I know what you mean. I now know exactly what I have in my cupboards and it's actually quite fun being creative with stuff that I would have once thrown out. Actually I think that once my DFD finally arrives I will sort of miss the challenge of it all :o

  • Yep, our cupboards are feeling lighter than they have for some time! I'm just looking up recipes for spicy carrot soup and anything tasty to do with bacon pieces!

For Justabank users - log on to your home page - across the top are several 'tabs', click on My Paypal and then My Creditors - on the far rh side of this page (when it opens) is the status of your offer. Just remember that this will show the status as Payplan understand it - your creditors may right to you with different information. You can forward this to Payplan if you like, but really it makes no difference until you are close to paying off the initial amount. To find out your total balance, click on the My Payplan summary tab, this is where they show how much you have paid so far, how much your next payment will be, the date, how much you've paid in total so far, and how much is left to pay, as well as an estimate of your debt free date.

Thanks, just a few more questions...

    1) We have a loan, overdraft and credit card with one creditor - do we need to write separate letters for each debt
    2) What do I need to have on the postal order (a/c number or name) and do I need to send letters with the token payments?

Easiest way is to the visit the post office and buy a £1 postal order for each creditor, that way they do not have a signature as they would off your new chequebook otherwise. The post office will ask if you want them made payable to anyone. Just ask for them blank and say you will complete at home. I had 12 creditors, I went to 3 different post offices as I felt too much of a wuss to ask for 12! Yes use the CC slips for them and just enclose the others with your 'notification of DMP' template for any others.

Will look forward to seeing you post next weekend when next stage is done!

  • Welcome to the thread! Fingers crossed for a smooth start up for you.

DMP takes only a matter of days to set up. In your pack there's a template for you to copy and send to each creditor.

They have a responsibility to be clear about who the debt sits with. Your DMP provider for the Debtline will guide you through a template letter to ascertain this.

CCJ will go one way or the other. As long as you show you are being reasonable, and I would suggest you are, you will be fine. If the CCJ is upheld then it will be included in your DMP as a priority debt. Are you sure you will loose your job? Explain this to the court too and let them know you have embarked on the DMP ASAP.

Shout up if we can help and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your help i actually recieved an email from cccs today with the pack attached so i can start to do that now.

So you advise that i write a letter to the court saying i have recently joined a dmp. Should i mention that i could lose my job?

Its because i work in a finiacial sector.
