We had our first DMP acceptance yesterday, a very nice letter from MBNA waiving all charges and reducing (not freezing) The interest to 3.6% per annum. Not as good as freezing it but better than nothing.
Do you think it's worth me writing a letter asking them to reconsider dropping the interest to 0%? Would thank them for being understanding, tell them we are committed to paying back our debt but if they were to drop the interest to 0% then that would enable us to do that quicker.
What's the general opinion of doing this? The offer the CCCS made them is about £70 below the contractual payment anyway (were paying £270 a month and the offer was for £202) so I think they're still getting a decent amount.
Look forward to hearing peoples thoughts x
Hi
I'd go for it. I'm a great believer in the power of the written word. As you say, underline your commitment and responsibility to the debt. Reiterate again your 'loss of income' (or whatever got you here in the 1st place) Be polite and open, express your appreciation of their help so far (grovel, grovel)
Communication is a wonderful thing - it might fall on deaf, corporate ears but you'll feel better for asking and it's only cost you a stamp.
Be prepared for a big,fat NO but feel boosted by knowing you have taken positive steps in shaping the way your repayments and DFD will run.
And when you're in the shower, instead of singing just swear loudly - works every time :rotfl:

Indeedy, this year is going to be a busy year!
I was going through some of my old posts and found some for a thread regarding the legalisation of DMPs a year ago. I wonder what happened there. I'll investigate and find out!
Ha - Inspector Clouseau is on the case (cue Pink Panther music!)
Seriously, I would be very interested in the results of your search.
Can't imagine a great deal will have happened - what with elections, cuts etc. etc such matters will probably have got pushed to the bottom of the garbage pile unfortunately........

Hi everyone i am new to this.
I have just filled out a cccs form online after reading this forum.
A couple of questions....
1) Who do i write to informing that i have joinded a dmp. The creditors themselves? I have recieved letters from debt agenicies i.e moorcroft, but they recently wrote to say they were no longer dealing with my account. Do you think it is just best to write directly to the original creditors?
2) Can i join a dmp if i have a ccj? I recently sent of the court form but have still heard nothing back from them. Who shall i write to in this case the court or the claimant itself?
Also is there anyway of stopping CCJS? If i have one of these it will mean i lose my job!
I feel very scared and sick to the stomach. Thanks for any help x0 -

Welcome to the thread! Fingers crossed for a smooth start up for you.
DMP takes only a matter of days to set up. In your pack there's a template for you to copy and send to each creditor.
They have a responsibility to be clear about who the debt sits with. Your DMP provider for the Debtline will guide you through a template letter to ascertain this.
CCJ will go one way or the other. As long as you show you are being reasonable, and I would suggest you are, you will be fine. If the CCJ is upheld then it will be included in your DMP as a priority debt. Are you sure you will loose your job? Explain this to the court too and let them know you have embarked on the DMP ASAP.
Shout up if we can help and let us know how you get on.

Hi, everyone and a special hello to the newbies... Things a bit slow and fraught here, tbh. Not much news on the DMP front but I'm finding budgeting and sticking to it very difficult... Hope you're having a good weekend0

I have only been on my DMP since October. But overstreched my self on my expenditure when initially setting up the plan. I contacted CCCS about this and they were quite happy to reduce as it would appear my expenditure still falls within their guidelines. However the creditors seem to be a bit unhappy about this, stating that they won't accept the new arrangement but will be happy to receive the payments I send them.
My main concern is my £2000 o/d with my previous bank who I have a feeling are going to obstuctive. They have told CCCS that they won't accept the plan due to my level of spending(as if i didn't know what had got me into this mess in the first place), the last 4 months have been pretty much hand to mouth.
Each year i propose to pay more into my plan to help reduce the debt/timescale of paying back, but am just getting a bit concerned. On top of all this Januarys payment wasn't collected by CCCS, some error when giving my new bank details to them.(Double paid this month!)
I am just rambling I know, but need to get it off my chest.
Finally has anyone had any dealing with energy companies whilst on their DMP. I have £360 outstanding with my previous supplier, EON, that has been included on my plan. They have rejected my proposal.0 -
Received my first letter yesterday after contacting all my creditors, from barclays concerning my loan- they are defaulting me on the account and closing it. I'm feeling quite deflated now, not heard from anyone else and really dreading receiving 12 more letters telling me the same thing. We have 2 other debts with barclays between my husband and I -Barclaycard & a huge overdraft (the biggest debt out of all of them) so these 3 debts alone equate to half our overall debt. If they all default what happens then? DO i need to go to court or will they just be passed on to a collections agency??MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. CommitedToChange wrote: »Well I start my plan in March, had a nice long chat with CCCS due to major confusion over my income - ah I love being self employed. But that has been sorted out and my plan starts on March 10th :j
Due to my needing to pay a tax bill first my currently length of plan is 40 years  but that drops dramatically once I've paid my tax bill off and that extra money goes to CCCS.
Amazingly I've only had nice calls and letters so far from creditors - I am in shock HSBC were lovely saying they understood and would hold all calls for a month to give CCCS a chance to contact them. Of course they may well change their tune when they see how little they are getting - at least at first - but tough. This is what's happening and they can deal with it :rotfl:
On a much happier note - ONE MORE SLEEP til my holiday begins
Lovely to have it all sorted with the CCCS before I leave will make me even more relaxed on my holiday
Have a lovely 2 weeks folks and thanks for your help over this last month - you've been incredibly helpful and I'm actually feeling optimistic and happy about my future now :T
I also had phone calls from barclays loan and they were very nice saying they would stop phone calls for a month and let the CCCS contact them...and then i got a letter through saying no to the agreement. I hope your news is better
