This will vary according to your creditor. Some of mine didn't acknowledge my DMP at all, just kept sending letters demanding payment.

Can anyone explain why the advice is not to sign anything from a creditor please?

put simply - they have been known to use new signatures and transpose them onto previously un-enforceable agreements.

secondly while on a DMP signing new credit agreements is not good practice and it could be looked upon as fraud.

if they are asking for a signature you would need to consider why? should they already have one for a valid agreement or are they trying to get you to sign up to something else!

I'm feeling just a bit stuck at the moment due to creditor responses or lack of them and I'd welcome any advice etc

I started a DMP with CCCS with the first payment going to them 1st February so none of the creditors have recieved their payments yet

MBNA dont seem to have acknowledged the DMP and have just sent me a bill which obviously I can't pay

One santander account acknowledged the request for reduced payments but say that although they can see I cant meet the contractual payments they dont think my recent purchases are acceptable and will continue to add interest (I spent approx £70 on the card in December!)

Another santander account said they wouldn't accept the reduced payment because a contractual payment was required (they even had the January one and none have ever been missed!)

GM card have been the nicest they rang once I told them I was with CCCS and gave them the no, they were v nice wished me luck and have since just written to say they've suspended the account (no information on whether they've accepted or not!)

Santander overdraft have just said they've cancelled the agreed overdraft and will add interest

Barclaycard rang I gave them the DMP no and then nothing

It just feels a bit like limbo land at the moment, I havnt been able to get through to CCCS to see what they say and don't know whether I should write again to the creditors to remind them of the DMP??

Any advice would be very welcome
Final no going back LBM 20/12/10

My advice would be to try and get on with your normal life, and not to worry about whether or not they accept at the beginning. The beginning is limboland, and nothing much will happen while the creditors try to work out if you're being serious, or just trying to get out of paying your debt back.

A DMP IS a Gentleman's agreement, and they don't have to accept, or stop interest (though most hopefully will, at some stage). The other thing I seem to hear is that a DMP isn't necessarily permanent, and there's nothing to stop you from paying the contractual payments if your situation improves (yeah right!).

I'm not trying to scare anyone, just pointing out a couple of things!

  • Hi All,

Firsty thank you to all of those that have responded to my original post. I think I am going to sort out a new back account (hopefully I get accepted) first and then start the DMP journey.

I was planning on using CCCS to organise this for me. Does anyone have any feedback good or bad on this company.

Who seems to be the best/most successful company to go through, are there any others you would recommend above CCCS.

Again thanks for your help at this daunting time.

Well the only two 'free' companies to use are CCCS and PayPlan. They're all much of a muchness tbh!

Any others will probably charge you to use their services.

  • Each day I arrive home expecting to struggle to open the door due to a barrage of abusive mail... so far there has been none :j. I've just checked online and my payments have been distributed by Payplan. I was receiving calls from Coop Bank which I ignored, but they have stopped.

The only fly in ointment is Great Universal. I owed them £82 and due to being frugal this month, I decided to keep them out DMP and pay them off when I get paid in a couple of weeks. In the meantime I sent them a token payment of £5 and a letter explaining I was in financial difficulty but would pay balance on 23 Feb and asked for no further charges.

They have accepted the payment but have added a £12 charge

I called them and they said they would only not charge if I did a payment plan with them.., After which I could have credit again:rotfl:
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time
  • Meant to add, I told them politely where to go. Will just pay up and sack them off. I'll actually end this month with about £80 in my rainy day fund:j

I've been with CCCS for just over a year and they've been fine. Good luck!
