    Thanks 2Spicy

They left a message again today and I rang back but couldn't be put through as I can't remember my security details! Eventually somebody said our account manager was on the phone and they would get her to ring me back but although I was in all afternoon she didn't call so i'm none the wiser.

The debt is showing on the DMP but maybe we should have the DMP put in both names. OH will ring Payplan on Monday to ask advice.
The OD is about £5000. Annoyingly we approached Nat West last year when we realised we weren't coping. We sent them a SOA but didn't know what we were doing then and they rejected it saying we were considered 'Good Customers'. Of course we were as we were paying them loads of interest!!
So heads went back in the sand and hence the huge OD.

  • Just a quick note to say Hi and that I have finally made the decision and signed up to the DMP with Payplan.
I know we are still in the very early stages and that there is still a good way to go before it is all sorted and in place, but I feel as if a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.
My DH is very supportive and has agreed that he is going to take his fair share of responsibility when dealing with the finances from now on.
I have also told my parents of the situation (although they dont know the amounts involved) but they understand and as they have seen me at my lowest point during one of my panic attacks, they are just happy that we can see a way out of this and possibly will get our lives back.

I have spoken to my employer and asked that they pay my wages into my new account and also to ensure that they no longer take my loan payment straight from my salary ( i told them i preferred to pay by dd ;))
we are still ebaying and carbooting like mad and have made another £75 today, and have another carboot to do tomorrow. even the kids are involved now and are selling their toys and books (on the understanding that they can keep the money), it is great cos my house is getting decluttered at the same time.
Thank you all for your help and support so far. speak to you soon xxxxx

  • Hi all,

Thought I would say "Hi" and join the party. I'm in a similar boat to most on here - 30k+ of personal debt, and then suddendly not having the means to pay it.

So, the journey starts here. Or on my other thread......

Have to say it's the most nerve racking thing I have ever done. And it doesn't quite feel real.
People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally !!!!!!.

Well done to all of you. Welcome aboard! :)
It sounds like you've got to grips with things, everyone understands how the finances stand and are willing to pull in the same direction.
It's all very unsettling at first to be sure, but I'm certain in just a very few months time you'll look back and know you've made the correct decision.

    Weird and frightening isn't it?
I remember many, many sleepless nights trying to thrash out ways to make all this go away. Sell the house, live in a shed, adopt a lodger, borrow, beg (but thankfully would never contemple stealing ;)) the money.
But suddenly you hit the brick wall and there is no way you can move forward.
So join the rest of us who are working our way around that wall.
As ian said recently we're a friendly bunch, so welcome to you and all newbies - keep posting and asking.

Off topic (as usual :o) but so grateful for all your previous messages of support re: my heart condition.
I was at the hospital again last week and things are looking pretty good. One more scan to go, but feeling much happier than I was a couple of months ago.
Also just received my latest CCCS statement showing the recent tiny increase in payment. But it's great to see those totals slowly but surely falling now. :)
Life could be so good - if it would only stop raining............ :(

  • OK guys, apologies for not posting for ages but life been a bit busy with a pregnancy and loads of other long winded stuff!

I'm posting here my post on the DFW board as I'm sure some of you seasoned dfw's will have some advice:

Hi, We have inherited a lump of money 14k, we actually have debts of 61k, but 30k of this is with NR and what we hope will happen is that we can pay all our other creditors off and go back to paying NR normally as this is part of our together mortgage (Mortgage plus loan).

We are currently on a dmp plan with cccs, but our circumstances have changed in that I'm pregnant so income will change in Jan 11 for at least a year and then we will then have added costs of childcare, clothes, nappies etc.

I plan to use a combination of the national debt line and cccs letters to send to creditors.

cccs suggest that I call to check balances as review is due and ask what settlement figure they would offer, and then use the their equation to work our what to offer, when I did that its quite a high figure probably around 40% mark, which I feel leaves us no room to negotiate if some say no as it will use up all our money.

My biggest concern is that cccs don't like you to treat your creditors unfairly and by not offering NR anything thats exactly what we will be doing if end up having to stay in the dmp. Does anyone know if all you rcreditors get a statement of who receives what on a regular basis?

Anyway just to make my post longer here is a list of all our creditors with what we owe etc to each:

    Creditors are:

Alliance & Leicester £2714.38 (o/draft) In house recovery interest stopped (default)
    Argos £139.18 interest still charged
    Barclaycard £2271.10 (c/card) Interest sopped
Cabot £5152.62 (c/card) interest stopped (was egg c/card)
Clarity Recoveries £613.31(was citicard) interest stopped
    Egg loan £1598.84 interest stopped
MBNA £999 (c/card) Interest stopped (possibly in house recovery unsure)
    MBNA £4402.21 (c/card) Interest stopped
Natwest £3147.56 (o/draft) interest stopped but some charges added whilst on dmp
Natwest £8928.66 (loan) interest stopped (default)
Littlewoods £567.14 (catalogue) interest still charged

Any thoughts or advice please comment.

I do know to get it in writing first before paying any money and also know to ask them to put it on file as fully satisfied.
  • Hi

Unfortunatley this is what I have come to expect of Halifax and the only thing I can suggest is that you continue paying and contact The FOS for advice.

Believe me I tried contacting them for nearly 6 months and they just never bothered to reply and refused to acknowladge any of my letters. As soon as The FOS got involved things improved greatly.

hiya scouselad thanks for the reply... My husband had another letter from halifax yesterday just saying we have tried to contact you by phone but cant blah blah blah. pls ring us as your arrears are now £1018. etc. I checked the address and its the same one we've been writing to for the last 3 months! I have had enough and have decided this week, that we need the help of the FOS. I am sick of being told to ring and then being told we havent received your letters..... its tiring and ive had enough of these incompetent idiots!! So we are going to fill in the complaint form from the website and send it off. will keep you all posted.

good luck to all who are starting out on their dmp :)
LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(

I've cut up my credit cards this morning!! I know I should have done it ages ago and they've been at the limits for ages so not been able to use them anyway but somehow I hadn't been able to cut them up until now. I guess they felt like a bit of a comfort, I might need that last £20 of the credit limit in an emergency etc. And it still wasn't easy to do it this morning, I had to fight with the devil on my shoulder telling me I could just keep them in my purse and not use them - honest!

But its done now and I feel a little bit better. The paperwork should arrive with CCCS and my creditors for the DMP today so I guess the phonecalls will start soon but I feel ok about it really. I've never missed a payment on anything before and haven't made full payments to things this month so will just wait and see what they say. At the end of the day they can't hurt me down the phone can they!!

Well done Helena, I hope it goes smoothly for you. Today is the start of your new chapter. I've just updated my signature, let me tell you each month brings more comfort and hope that the end is in sight!

    Have a good day all.
