Have a question about some of our debts with Halifax.
We have a credit card, 2 overdrafts and a mortgage with them. The DMP will cover the overdrafts and credit card but we will still pay our mortgage to them as usual, I hope! Is there anything they can do about our mortgage, will they let us pay it out of a newly opened bank account as the money going into the current one will be under the DMP with CCCS. Just wondering how it will work and can they do anything nasty regarding our mortgage?
Many thanks!
Sorry a bit of a rushed reply but I have a C/C debt with Barclaycard (albeit small) on my DMP and also a mortgage with the Woolwich (part of Barclays)
I've had absolutely no problems with the mortgage side at all. they've been absolutely fine.
Your home is priority so ALWAYS maintain your mortgage payments. If you do find you're struggling with the budget or the bottom drops out of the car, go back to CCCS to inform and re-set payments but always keep on top of essential living costs.
There are several on here who struggle with Halifax and they might advise you further if they have debts/mortgage as you do.
Good Luck!

Your mortgage will be fine, just set up a standing order from your new account and you are sorted. ours was a IF account where everything is out of the same account and its working fine, don't use the current part of the account but pay the mortgage by SO from my new account. I don't think they are allowed to mess around with the mortgage cos it is a different type of debt, ie secured whereas the rest is unsecured. So don't worry just make sure the mortgage gets paid every month and you'll be fine.!More than Two Years in

Dont think I'd have been able to do it without seeing all the posts giving the pitfalls and benefits along the road, so a big thankyou to everybody, and all of you thinking about a DMP, I can honestly say its changed my life so much for the better, no worries or sleepless nights, just sensible budgetting!
Welcome to the alternative universe of cash only, no holidays in Florida or expensive meals in posh restaurants. But the up side is sleeping well at night, paying as you go and making every penny count and proud of it!
And the biggest plus - you get to join this very, very exclusive club :rotfl:
Glad it's all settled so well for you.

Arrrrgggghhhhh......
I'm just beating my head against a wall right now with Santander and our overdraft. We had an agreement for the last 6 months - I pay £50 per month and they stop all interest, fees, and charges. I paid it religiously by standing order for the entire time. I received a letter on 10 Sept (dated 02 Sept) saying thanks for sticking to our payment agreement, that agreement is now done - please pay the entire amount (just under £2000!) within 7 days. Then I sent off a letter to them (on 11 Sept, wasted no time!) requesting that the previous agreement continue. Yesterday I received two letters from them - one is dated 11 Sept saying it's a notice of intent to send default info, and one dated 10 Sept which is actual default notice. Too aggravated to even think straight on this one at the moment!! It says "and pending charges" which means that now that I've FINALLY got it under the £2000 limit (JUST!!), they're going to slam me with interest and charges - which will then take us over the overdraft limit - and then they'll add ANOTHER £60 per month for being over - due to the stupid charges!!! And it will effectively eat up everything I've paid over the last 6 months in one hit! Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to ring them on Monday as I cannot face being put right back where I was 6 months ago!! It's so maddening!! How in God's name do they expect people to pay these things off?!?!?!

You may find that as they've defaulted, they may pass this on to a DCA. That's what they did with me anyway, in which case the DCA should stop the interest and charges.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430

Received a letter yesterday from a catalogue that my OH has debt on adding a £93 admin fee
but they also agreed to stop all charges on the account.:j

powerchimp - it's always great to see them stop charges on accounts!! welldone!
ianmak - I can only hope. Technically, it's the only one of our debts that has my name on it as well, the rest are in DH's name, so I was paying it separate from the DMP, as that's all in DH's name. But if they're going to be less than cooperative, I'll simply lump it all in with DH's DMP, adjust the payments accordingly, and they'll just have to deal with it. Honestly, they knew I am a SAHM and was paying them out of the household budget - so you'd think they'd be cooperative - they know DH is doing the DMP and that if it was in with the DMP debts that the payment will be less. Oh, well, I needed to readjust the payments this month anyway, as a couple are unenforceable, so that means their payments will be dropped and the other debt payments will go up accordingly. Some days I think I should've trained to be an accountant..... Could be worth putting in an official complaint. If they are being unreasonable with you that surely is grounds for complaint.
I've found with Santander that the left hand and right hand don't know what they are doing and you end up going round in circles with them.I'm Debt Free :j 2/09/2013

eyeopener - thanks - the plan at this point (now that I'm calmer LOL) is to call them on Monday and speak to someone about it. I am going to point out that
- I made the payments regularly
- they were quite happy to make the agreement previously, there's no good reason not to continue
- if they add fees and charges, they will be pushing me over the overdraft limit, thus adding further fees and charges and knowingly putting me in a position of not being able to repay the debt as I would then never get ahead, as my monthly payment of £50 wouldn't even cover the interest and charges
- knowing that I was capable of paying a monthly payment (and was doing so), cancelling the agreement for no good reason and simply demanding payment in full is unreasonable and could be looked upon as "using unreasonable collection methods" and "putting undue pressure on the debtor"
Hopefully they will be reasonable..MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
I would like to join your little band please as I think I will need some support and smiles over the next few years. Have just sent off paperwork to CCCS and hopefully things will get going in the next couple of weeks. I've already written to half our creditors, Virgin an Mint but have the pleasure of contacting Halifax next week. Have delayed writing to them as we had our current account with them but we've now got a new account for salaries from the end of this month.
So far we've just had letters from Virgin and Mint asking for their cards back and wishing us well!!! but no doubt the phone calls will start soon. Not cherishing the thought but to be honest after the months of sleepless nights starting to get it sorted has taken away most of the panic.
It's strange the kinds of thoughts that go through your head and you have to be careful not to be paranoid - the day I posted the forms back to the CCCS I was in Tesco and would have sworn that people were looking at me with a knowing look.
The CCCS Debt Remedy estimates that we be debt free by 2017 which will make me 66 so here's hoping they all agree to freeze the interest.
I'm sure like everyone who has started out on this journey I can go from relative calmness to feeling physically sick in the blink of an eye but knowing there are such good folks out there travelling down the same road as us is such a help.
Well, that's the first of the seven year reports.0
