DMP Mutual Support Thread - Part 7

With a DMP am I able to keep paying full payments to some of the debts and reduced payments to others. I'm wondering if that would be better as some of the bits have small payments anyway and if they start charging me for missed payments etc then would it be better to have made the full payments. Might it look better on my credit if I'm only defaulted on some of the cards and not all of them?
Sorry but no. You've got to be seen to be treating all creditors on an equal basis. If you do go the DMP route, the free companies such as PayPlan and CCCS apportion your repayments in slightly different ways but at the end of the day the creditors are all getting their fair share of the pot. (Money that is, not the wacky-backy sort)
Some excellent advice recently from pure dead dopey.
I can remember getting my knickers in a terrible twist because of worry over my lily-white credit history. It's not worth running yourself ragged about. Sure, some creditors may default you but it ain't the end of the world. Since being on my DMP I have changed house/car insurance providers, negotiated a better ISP deal, had mortgage reviews etc with no problems, even though I have been defaulted.
It's your life - you need to live it without worry and fear of money problems. I think if we're all honest we remember the 'sick to the bottom of the stomach' times. But if you read the posts on this thread, you'll find for most of us who've been on DMPs a while, it just becomes a part of the life we live now.

one of the things that CCCS insist on that to give you the best possible chance of the DMP being accepted, all the creditors must be seen to be treated equally. This is the basis on which they calculate the payments they would make on your behalf. No harm in talking to them but I think this is one rule they stick to quite rigidly. You could look at doing your own DMP without CCCS involvement, its not impossible but it is more difficult at the start and you have to be quite disciplined and strong, again its your decision.More than Two Years in

Any help would be gratefully received and I take my hat off to you all for facing up to your debts and supporting one another. I feel so ashamed of my situation.
With gratitude.
Never, never be ashamed!!! We all arrive here in one form or another through various circumstances.
Nobody wants to be in debt but we're the honest, open and forward-thinking ones
We have financial problems but we've been courageous and faced up to them. (I'm certain in the future there will be many more in this current monetary climate who realise they have problems.)
As pure dead dopey says ' knowledge is power.'
All the best to you.

Now there's an idea.... what would we have as a slogan?
"DMPers do it the hard way"?
"They can't have what you haven't got"?
"I was on a DMP for X years and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt"?
Answers on a postcard.
Like it! :T
Would love 'I will never ever touch credit again with a barge-pole' but my chest isn't big enough :rotfl:

I feel so much better having visited this forum! You rock! Now that I am starting to get my head round a DMP for the first time in a long time I can get excited about life instead of the rabbit in the head lights scared way I've been feeling for the last wee while.
Many thanks!0 -
Bl**dy hell PDD - you been having caffeine in your coffee again?
Brilliant advice for all of us. Thankyou.
(I'm still working my way round the excellent help you gave me a short time ago - trying to learn first before taking action.)
Thanks.

Fabulous! Find it hard to believe you've had such success. I'm inspired. Well done you!
Hope the dodgy tum recovers soon.
By the way (a sterling money saver tip) -in the interests of all, value loo roll is really not worth the paper it is printed on
