But (from memory admittedly), weren't both motors pretty much destroyed? I certainly feel safer for my passengers and myself in a bigger, higher and stronger motor than in a eurobox. Above a certain speed, an impact is likely to kill the occupants anyway.
Yes both motors where totaled but the door could be opened on the euro box and the passenger compartment was pretty much undamaged,
on the 4x4 though the door couldnt be opened as the passenger compartment had deformed so baddly, the dummy was also pretty well mullered by the dashboard and steering wheel.
The expert stated the occupant of the 4x4 wouldnt have survived which was a bit of a shock to me as i was always under the same impresion as you state.0 -

@gilbert and sullivan
Yeah, the tyres might have been crap, it was a company supplied lease so i couldn't change them but I was more of the opinion that there wasn't enough weight over the back axle to provide grip. I'll also admit I am not exactly a sunday driver but it felt twitchy on a number of occasions a van or car didnt.
I did put 40k miles on it with only a burst power steering hose to complain about so i reckon mechanically they are big and simple enough that you have very little worries, not a bad car but I would be hesitant to buy one myself for a daily driver.0 -

Hmm - that does seem to bear out much of what you say. Except it's an old Disco pitted against a much newer car (which is far larger than average too).
I'd still fancy my chances against the majority of what's on the road0 -

Yes it may be an old disco but still has a ladder chassis with no give,
the point i am makeing is wether it be the first crash i posted or the second one you posted you would be very very lucky to have survived either.I'd still fancy my chances against the majority of what's on the road
This is why i posted in the first place as ive heard it so many times before, some people seem to think they are indestructable in this kind of vehicle and dont drive accordingly.
i am not saying you are one of that type of person though just my observations of the rural area i live in.0 -
Hi I am looking at getting the L200 Warrior or a Hyundai Santa Fe but the insurance is HUGE to say the least. I want the vehicle for leisure/home use although I do have to have cover for using it for work even though I push a pen! Can anyone recommend who I might try for insurance other than GoCompare? I have full NCD and no accidents in the last 5 years and I am well over 25 and under 50 lol. Will try NFU
Many thanks in anticipation
NFU wouldn't insure unless I garaged it! I went for the Santa Fe. I know it's not the same but glad I did. Wished I had had one years ago. Hyundai did the insurance for me too. Half that of a commercial vehicle which I wasn't going to use commercially!0
