I checked an L200 Animal out myself (new shape) but found it quite underpowered and all cosmetics with no balls if you get me , I am going to get a new Nissan Navara simply for the bigger BHP although the L200 looks good (new shape) the Navara wins for me , only thing I worry about with going from a Vauxhall Astra to a 4x4 Pickup is parking spaces and getting stressed to hell , im a HGV driver so itll be nice having something larger on the road but I know what I am like in car parks losing my rag ha ha , part n parcel of having a bigger machine I guess but I was totally suprised at seeing my insurance cheaper for the navara than for the astra 1.9 cdti sri.0

Check carefully your pick up's insurance, if it's commercial vehicle policy which is most likely you may not be insured to drive other cars that don't belong to you on a third party only basis.
It's a nuisance sometimes and easy to forget.0 -
harry, invest in a grease gun, make sure you grease the axle and prop shaft regularly on these l200's. they need it quite a lot to save wear. im sure it was recomenede every 1000 mile....work permit granted!0

Pretty poor reputation and even had their own web site knackerednavara.com.
Basically a lousy response from Nissan to the engine problems spawned the site, not sure if they`ve relented now.
If your buying new, the VW Amarok (due out in the Autumn) will be worth a look.0 -
Hi I am looking at getting the L200 Warrior or a Hyundai Santa Fe but the insurance is HUGE to say the least. I want the vehicle for leisure/home use although I do have to have cover for using it for work even though I push a pen! Can anyone recommend who I might try for insurance other than GoCompare? I have full NCD and no accidents in the last 5 years and I am well over 25 and under 50 lol. Will try NFU
Many thanks in anticipation0 -
Got mine from NFU and was very pleased with their prices0

I had an 05 L200 about a year and would say the following.
1) unloaded it was unstable, at speed the back end would slip round corners. I once spun mine 180 in the dry to avoid an unexpected pothole round a sharp corner and was only going about 30.
2) I would not consider it a safe car, it has mass and viability so while it may be ok against a micra, against a bigger car I reckon in a crash you will be on your roof.
3) I was using mine for commercial purposes but still got dogs abuse from weirdo hippies when I went down the shops till i told them to F'off as obviously wasnt the nice middle class mum they thought they were upsetting. Never got that when i had a 4.4 liter car.
4) they dont seem to be much value second hand, while low depreciation is good when buying new, its a lot of cash for a high mileage second hand car.
5) there relay was very little rear viability, I think rear parking sensor are a must if you want to use it in urban areas or you will ding something reversing .
Its a big old beast and if I lived in a rural area with no motorway driving as they have 4x4 and serious ground clearance, people do need to know that these are not cars and should understand there are down sides to getting one.0 -
You surprise me
1. Was this your first 4x4? I've found the L200 to be at least as stable as nay other I've driven (and far better than some). It can be light at the rear when unladen, but that's just something to take care with.
2. It's centre of gravity is pretty low in relation to the height of the motor so I doubt overturning is a serious issue. I know that I'd rather be in my truck in a collision. It's a far stronger design than most (having a solid and seperate chassis) so the other motor would come off far worse.
3. Not had any abuse from hippies yet - just hope they ctach me in a bad mood when they try it though
4. They seem to hold their value as well as most 4x4s and again, better than some.
5. Visibility is a problem at the rear, but learning to reverse using wing mirrors clears this up easily enough.0 -
EPZ, unstable pick up in the dry could possibly have been over inflated tyres (fully laden pressurs) and/or Chinese ditchfinder tyres.
Never had a moment's drama on the road with the Hilux in 3 years, nor any other 4x4 come to that, but i buy quality tyres for all my vehicles and don't make the mistake of thinking i'm in a Lotus 7 when i'm actually driving a truck.
Agreed they are big vehicles but they have proper mirrors not make up mirrors like many cars have, like anything else it takes a bit of practice but so does everything.
Harry F...hows that L200 going matey has it been a good 'un?, glad you found NFU useful i wouldn't dream of coming away from them.0
